Historical aerial photos

How good are your aerial photo interpretation skills without modern landmarks like roads, and clear cuts or GPS coordinates? I'll start with an easy one. If there is any interest in these I'll post some more. First someone has to identify this area. Taken July, 1949. Somewhere on the east slopes of the Washington cascades.

Edit: I see I gave away the location on this one. If i post more I'll fix that.

Rimrock lake

The first one is Rimrock lake in Yakima county. If you look sharp you can see the landing strip at the end of the inlet.

Correct. I thought that was the airstrip in the photo too. I did some research and found that the airstrip wasn't constructed until 1952. What looks like the airstrip in the photo is actully the mud flats just north of the where the airstrip is now. On google earth you can see the timber was cleared just south of that to build the airstrip.

You can click on the photos to zoom in.

I have ridden my snowmobile down to the lake from funny rocks. Its tight and steep through them trees. Also there is a bench at the east end of the lake.

This area has been heavily logged sense the photo was taken. Both snowmobile and jeep trails and a popular "Dinner ride" run through it.

I would say that is the "Greenwater" area. Pyramid Pass, Naches Trail.

Here you go.
That is milk lake.
I was not aware of a dinner ride.
A few years ago someone left a camper up there and it was flipped upside down.

Correct. That is Milk Lake. Devils Slide is in the lower half of the photo. I think they ride from Cle Elum to Whistling Jacks for dinner. Through tripod Flat up to the Summit Spring jeep trail then either down through Milk lake or across the top of Devils Slide.

Someone from Yakima should know this area.
