High pitch ringing sound on the new M8?

The new M sled is amazing and running like a top. It has however developed resonance tone that is obnoxious. It seems to be coming from the center to right side of the engine compartment. It only happens at 4700 rpm. A little more or less throttle and it completely goes away. It's really loud. Kinda like a guy driving down the street with a loud belt squeal.

I pop the hood and see nothing out of the norm. I wiggled the can in case it got bumped and was rubbing somewhere and I inspected all the heat shielding for contact marks etc.. I am stumped. Under normal riding, it's a non issue but when I'm following my little girls around on the little sleds, we're just cruising down the groomed trail, it's really annoying.

Anyone else having this issue or have any ideas? This sled is mostly bone stock. I've added a muffpot and changed the primary spring. No noises in the first 60 miles but now it is very consistent.

On my 05 M7 it does that at around that many RPMs and always has, I don't think its a problem. I can definately understand how it would be annoying while riding along with your kids though.

I did check the springs and they seemed good and snug at a glance.

That is still a definite possibility though. I'll try and silicone them today and dampen the vibes. If that solves it that would be great!

Ya - I was going to say throw some hi-temp silicone on the springs.

It's not the whine of the diamond drive your hearing is it ?

Not to steal the thread but I just took my first ride ever on a new 09 M8 and heard what sounded like gear whine. I am assuming it is the diamond drive? Is this something that happens new until it it broke in or is it there for the duration?

Thanks

Still running the stock can?

Yep for now. I've been eyeballin that HPS can though. Big $$ but sounds like it's working pretty good.

I siliconed the springs today and also the tail of the hose clamp holding down the muff pot. I could see where it had been vibrating and wearing into the main part of the clamp. Not likely the problem but fixed it any way. I'll get it back on the snow Thursday and see if I made any progress.

Here's something you might try if you can't find source of squeal. On my '09 M8 I found that the seal (black doughtnut) that fits over the DD output hub and rotates with the track driver shaft was the source of the obnoxious squealing. I hoisted the rear of the sled up in the air and squirted some WD-40 on hub, started sled up and engaged track and the pitch of the squealing changed considerbly. So when I had my DD out I coated hub & seal with chassis grease. This worked great for 1 trip, 2nd trip it went back to squealing. So back to the drawing board. The seal has actually worn a very slight ring in the hub. Not all the sleds are doing this but quite a few. The dealer mech told me that some of the guys were riding without this seal, but I don't like that idea. Maybe this isn't what your hearing, but threw it in just in case you can't find the source. You can at least eliminate this possible.
