high gas prices cause !!!

A woman said her son found his license plate missing so he called the
police to file a report. They told him people were stealing the plates to
get free gas.

Given the rise in gas prices, people have taken to stealing license plates,
putting them on their car, then getting gas and running. The gas station
will have "your" l icense plate # and you could be in trouble for "pump and
run."

Check your car periodically to be sure you still have a plate. If you should
find it missing, file a report immediately!!! Keep an eye on your license
plate! Make sure you always know it's there! When the license plate is
reported as the "drive off vehicle", it's YOU they contact! Be aware!!!! Be
aware of your license plates, most of us never look to see if the plates are
there or not.

Consider Passing it on to those you know. Thanx

Sounds like a phony e-mail forward to me. I'm sure it has happened but I don't think it is something to worry about. Just because it was your plate, doesn't make you liable for the fuel. They have to prove it was you and your vehicle. Obviously if the police show up at your door for a fuel drive off, and your vehicle has a missing plate, you won't be charged, unless they have video and they can prove it was your vehicle.

When fuel first started going up a few years ago, gas drive offs were very common. Now they are pretty much unheard of...you either have to prepay to pump or use a credit card at the pump to fuel. The days of gassing up and then going into the store to pay are over. Stealing a license plate is absolutely ridiculous...because it will do no good.

It's prepay for gas here in BC. A gas station attendant was killed last year when he tried stopping a gas and dash. Now we all prepay before you pump.

The gas stations here have all gone to pre-pay, also more than a few no longer accept checks.

Here in small town SD you can still pull up to a pump, put in the nozzle and start pumping, then drive up to the nearest parking spot and go in and pay for your purchase. But, I filled up along the interstate yesterday and had to go in with my credit card and ID in order to authorize the pump. They said they were having a rash of drive-off's until they started that policy.

We have some trailers that we park outside when finished (in a well lit parking lot along a main highway), they have 1 gallon gas tanks on them for the Honda engine, the gas has been mysteriously evaporating within a couple days.

here in most of south dakota we still pump then go in and pay but it will probably change when gas gets really high and people resort to drive offs

Ya I know its ***gen annoying trying to fill up my truck at Chevron which only allows 75.00 at a time prepay or even Shell which is a max of 100.00 when the truck takes 145.00 to fill! But ya no gas'n'dash anymore here in BC.
