High compression head to fix low compression?

I've got really low compression in one cylinder (70) andthe local mechanic suggested putting a high compression cylinder head on. He said that should get me back close to stock. Any opinions? thanks

Agree with rdr99 new pistons and rings and check the Cylinder walls and make sure there not bad! You can hone them out a little and clean it up if you need to! I know cause I just had to redo mine this year! cost around 500 dollars but i needed a new jug too!:face-icon-small-dis

Don't really want to name names. He did say normally he wouldn't suggest a high compression cylinder head but thought this might be a fix.(trying to give him some support). Anyways, is it easier just to buy new/ used cylinders in good condition? I can get a set for $125.

You could find an old psi dial a dome head and dial in more compressoin as you go...when you're out of adjustment and the motor don't run, its time to fix it. just don't let yer mechanic use a pipe wrench on that pretty purple anodizing.

Yeah I've learned enough off these forums to do most of the stuff myself at this point. I'm waiting on a topend rebuild kit and will get to work.. I did take the head off and the piston tops are black, but the cylinders look pretty good. I'll go through it and replace all the gaskets, rings, etc. and hope for the best.

This would not at all correct the problem. The cylinder would still be down on compression. The differnce between the cylinders would more than likely stay close to the same, and the sleds performance would suffer.

You need to pull the cylinder apart and check for damage to it and the head and at least put in new rings and or a new piston based on its condition.

If you have it apart already and the pistons are sketchy change em now! It may save ya a 200 dollar jug and some down time!
