just got back from west. put 80 miles on belt at home for break in. got out there and belt blew at 80 miles just boondocking no climbing. put new 377 on not broke in. it lasted 35 miles. so the last 2 days i ran a 166 with 1000 miles from my 04. ran the hell out of with no problem. but heres the deal i let the clutches cool down every 1/2 hour. it's deffinatly a heat problem. wheather there is some clutch issue i don't know yet. also my throttle stuck WFO yesterday morn. it does ride nice though. ski-doo dealer in west sucks big time too.

Blew my first belt at 35 miles. Took to dealer they replaced bushing and gave me a new belt. Last 200 miles have been awsome.

2 cool air vents will fix that i have them on my 08 154 after 175 hard miles my belt still looks good i also towed dead 900 rmk 15 miles back to the trailer so if you get rid of the heat i think you will see longer belt life

Air vents are a band-aid for the real problems. Mine were alignment and more primaary weight. If the belt is mis-aligned or slips, it will get hot. Mine did, yours will. Fix it early and enjoy it more.

my 08 has had all the updates witch alingning the clutches is one of the things they did .but i had an 07 800 renegade had bad clutch heat and the clutchs on that were alinged i think ski doos just have clutch heat

X2, heat is created if the clutches are not aligned. Eat 3 belts, brought it back to dealer to align, never had a problem for the rest of the season.

x3

If your clutches are getting hot enough to eat belts, venting is not the problem. Alignment or belt slip is the problem.

i don't think i have belt slip. holds 8100 and doesn't move. no black marks either

Just because the sled is holding rpms doesn't mean the belt is not slipping!

In Revy in major deeep snow last weekend (honest 3ft+ fresh on good base) the stock 08 163 could only hold 50km/hr yet our clutched 163 XP's were holding 62km/hr. Does not sound like much but the 20% increase in track speed made the difference between climbing the hill and turning out.

Ok, what's up with the title? I thought this thread was going to be written by a retard. 400 miles, no problems... after clutch alignment, gearing and vent kit.

Dynamo Joe XP Clutch Kit.

The conditions were extreme thus the low track speeds (starting at the hill bottom with very deep snow - no run in). The important consideration is the relative difference between the sleds.

I too would like to vote the skidoo dealership in west "I will not mention the name" but they are the only one in town, as the biggest AHOLE dearship in the country. They are VERY lucky they have the only show in town or they would have been out of work years ago!!!! and thats a fact..

I'm STILL trying to figure out what Blu Du was trying to say....

'08 154. Stock motor, HPS can, XXXModRod vent kit, Rooster-Built clutching (WinterBrew)... Sled rips, clutches stay cool, sticks right at 8200, 400 miles on 377. :D

My buddy on his '09 154x on the other hand, is installing his FOURTH 377 in under 250 miles... Hot clutches, smeared residue, rpm all over the place. Everytime he rides in deep pow and works the sled hard, he smokes a belt. Engine seems to be in alignment, so I just keep telling him to clutch it...
