I think the reason they were crying is that they realized that the weight of their bodies was damaging the forest. They suddenly realized that they needed something (like a track) to disperse the weight of there bodies over the ground.

They also realized that if they were to comune with nature in the winter, the snow covering would also protect the precious earth from the weight of their bodies.

I am almost certain you will see these guys buying some 4 stroke sleds next fall.

Man you are on to something here. If we could just position ourselves as tree hugers who sacrifice by sojuring out in extreme cold to commune with the tree and have to spend vast amounts of money to have over-the-snow machines to get us there (just like those hippies used cars) at great cost to ourselves and family just to talk to the trees and show our love and support for the forrests. And we wait for winter so that we do no harm to the grass and plants.

This is the public relations faction of the extremest machine. The ones we really need to be fearful of are the more connected ones than can convince (bribe or ?) some congressman(s) to sponsor some bill to shut PUBLIC land down to normal people. It's beyond my comprehension how some people can percieve a snomobile, running on the snowpack whose tracks melt in the spring, as damaging the land?. Sure some riders leave garbage behind, but I've seen a lot of garbage left by other outdoorsmen, I think this is a time when we need to make sure we don't give these groups any ammo to use in their cause. Make no mistake about which side I'm on but seeing a bunch of blogging about shooting and running over these weirdos isn't going to reflect well on the sledding community if some of the computer literate weirdos find something like this. This could be a battle we fight for some time, I fear more for the next generation of riders like my 5yr old. I'd like to think there might be a way we could keep these extremists from coming after us everytime we turnaround, I don't know if we had mrs.Palin in the white house would help but I'd bet it could'nt hurt ( I'm sure Todd could help influence the cause) I'm not very good about leading the charge ( I blame it on A D D ) but we need to get as many people together join groups like SAWS or Blueribbon coalition(?) we'll win these battles w/numbers, happy riding and hope you all have a safe winter.
