Help with guns....

I don't know much about guns, but have been considering getting into them more lately. I have a guy looking at my trailer for sale and he has a couple of guns he would be interested in trading. I am asking $500 for the trailer and this is what he said:

I would like to trade the following: 1. Remington 870 Wing master 12 gage and $250 cash or 2. Ruger 10/22 Stainless laminate stock with a 3-9 power scope, sling, clip and $200 cash.

Do the prices seem right? $250 for the shotgun and $300 for the 22?

What should I look for when looking at the guns as far as what kind of condition they are in or what features they have?

How does buying from a private party work? Are you required by law to register them in Idaho? What if you don't? What if you get pulled over and they are in the vehicle unregistered? How would I know if the guns are stolen or not?

Any help would be appreciated....thanks.

His used value on guns seem a little high, but if they are in good condition pretty close to what they would cost you new. The shotgun I believe retails at sportsmans for between 250 and 280 the last time I looked and that thing is bullet proof. Know a lot of guys that shoot that gun for birds over their expensive shotguns. The kicker on the 22 is the scope, The gun itself I want to say in that setup is 230ish so depending upon the scope it is prob pretty close to 300. Sounds like if the guns are in good condition that he is shooting you a pretty fair deal.

If its an older Wing Master, take it. I know a few guys looking for older ones in good condition that would pay way more then $250 for them.

As for the Ruger, I have more then $300 in just a stock for my 10/22.

edit:

As far as private sale is concerned, get a bill of sale signed and notarized. IIRC in Idaho you aren't required to register it in your name, not going to say what my suggestion would be but I'm sure you can figure that out by looking at some of my prior posts on this subject.

The Bill of sale is all you need to appease the Law if you ever get pulled over and they run serial numbers. Just tell them you haven't had time to go to the courthouse to register them. I've never had an issue with it and easily half my guns are private sales.

This is also the reason you want to do it face to face. If he ships them to an FFL you will have to fill out the paperwork.
