Help Stop Obamacare

Why? Granted there are some things that could be improved on the bill, but on the whole I think it is an improvement. I would have wished that they would have focused on the system more then on providing care for everyone, but that is what happens when you try and get a consensus.

I find it interesting coming from someone on social security, medicare, medicaid...

i am curious as to why so many americans are against universal healthcare? coming from canada, we don't get to hear most of the issues.

our system isn't perfect, but the stories i hear about the current US system sound downright scary!

the system being proposed in the US is NOT universal health care. They are just now kind of forcing people to buy health insurance (just one part of the proposed changes).

Not as scary as these blowhards think it trumps the supreme law of the land . Our state is joining the lawsuit against it even though Gagwhore says our attorny general doesn't represent her. Do I care about her? NO..... has she not sworn to uphold our state and federal constitutions? Dumb $%#&!

then if you dont get health insurance they will be fining people...
yep,

unfortunately it seems to be necessary.

The problems that this is trying to solve is that insurance spreads the health care costs out to all its "pool" members. As times get hard, people are deciding what things they can do without. Lots of younger, healthier people are choosing not to have health care coverage. The creates a pool of people looking for insurance that are more likely to be sick / have illnesses. Therefore costs will rise as there is more risk, then more people will opt to not have insurance, creating a pool of more and more sick / people that have illnesses.. It is a downward spiral. Eventually it would seem that the pool would be charged much more close to what services they actually use, negating the insurance systems pad of spreading the cost to all pool members.

Keep in mind that insurance socializes the costs of providing the care to all pool members.

That is my take on this small part of the subject.

so is the opinion that this bill is unconstitutional because of the fact that the insurance MUST be purchased, and that it is enforced by fines? the right to choose has been taken away?

correct

Though, if it were universal care, it would just be a tax and you wouldn't have the option of opting out either, and you would be forced to pay as well, in the form of a tax though.

ahh ha. i can grasp that concept. it is actually quite similar here in bc. we all must pay into the bc medical service plan (depending on how much money you make). it is approximately $100 per month to cover both my wife and i. when i was younger and making way less money, i just flat out didn't pay. however, the government would take any money i was entitled to on my tax refunds at the end of the year, up untill they figured i had paid them everything i owed them.

but regardless if i was paying or not, i was never denied medical care. during that time i broke my thumb sledding. i had 2 surgeries and a set of xrays done on each occasion. never once did i see a bill. i don't even know what something like that would cost.

for quite a few years now, my employers have paid my bc medical, so i don't see that $100/month anymore. but i do pay about 26% in deductions off of my gross pay (taxes, canada pension contributions, and employment insurance). and canada taxes the hell out of cigarettes and junk food to pay for medical. no problem for me cuz i don't smoke and generally eat healthy.

i hope it all works out for you guys. sucks to have a hand shoved into your pocket. on that note though, is the average cost of health insurance expected to go down with the increased number of people paying into it?

good question.cant remember anything going down in price.

yah, not too sure about that. I think the biggest issue is not to make the health care cheaper, but to stop the increases from occuring so fast. It is staggering how much health care has increased in the last 10 years.

Let's see, social security is broke, medicare is broke, medicade is broke, the post office is broke. And they think they can run health care. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you think is broke about them? Two of them deal with health care and are effected by the large increases in health care costs...

The cost of health care in this country is directly related to:

A; The immense power of the insurance industry and their UNREGULATED ability to charge what they can get away with. Much like the utility industries in the 70's.

B; The court systems lack of backbone which allows frivolous lawsuits against doctors and hospitals...which results in astronomical insurance costs for ALL doctors and hospitals to cover their arses....

C; Drug companies....see A above.

D; Politicians who find it "financially" more responsile (for their pockets, anyway) to do as the lobbiest wishes rather than the people they represent.

E; Politicians who refuse to institute term limits when the American people would vote for it, ensuring that they stay life long members to a system that feeds itself, like a parasite on a dog, by the very people whom they should be looking out for. There by perpetuating a never ending cycle of greed, corruption, lying and deciet caused by a small minority of people (lobbiests) who do not represent America as a whole.

If this Healthcare Bill were voted on by the American people, it would more than likely fail with 2 out of 3 Americans voting against.

Insurance companies don't have that much power and don't make as much money as you think they do. The lawsuits are an issue, but not the reason for the huge increases in costs. Texas worked on this and the result was no reduction in premium costs.

How come the American people aren't on your list? We are a MAJOR part of the problem.

We want the best care, most advanced technology even though we don't need it. We want the best, most advanced procedures even though we don't need it. We want all the tests even though we don't need it.

A large part of the problem is us. We want the best care, but we have a hard time paying for it and come up with reasons why it is everyone's else fault except for us. We think everyone else should make due with less, but when it is our family, everything should be done, even if it is just a waste of money. Do we care about health costs? Do we make any decisions based on cost? Why shouldn't we?? Oh, that is right, because insurance will pay for it all... People need to realize that insurance doesn't pay it all, everyone else does. They socialize the costs, and when costs go up, so do premiums.

Health care is expensive, and it is becoming time where we need to balance getting care with the cost associated with that care.

If you are going to place blame, you need to place it on all parts of the system. The consumer of health services is a very very large part of the system, and a large part of the problem.

As for the Americans voting on this... I don't trust them one bit.

This is why, Ruffy: Watch the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcBaSP31Be8

Medicaid/Medicare rationing
All non-citizens/illegals will get healthcare
Govt. access to your financials and checking/savings accounts
$5000/year per person, $10000 per family
The Govt decides on what treatment you get/need

and the list goes on and on

If anybody thinks this is a good idea after watching then they are part of the problem.

LMAO... a youtube video.. great source there...

I love the argument that people make about "GOVERNMENT CONTROL" lol. It is in the form of regulations and minimum standards. As to the rest, your health insurance company has / had the control before, not you. You never had the control.

The numbers you are quoting are the limits of MAXIMUM OUT OF POCKET COSTS OF THE PLAN. Not total limits of coverage.

This is the type of crap for why I think we need to do away with Americans voting.... seriously. We do more harm then good with voting.

So it looks like the health plan does exactly the opposite of what you and the youtube video are saying?

You know, not everything on the News is true, just as what is in the video. If I recall, CBS endorsed Obama and they always seem to praise him so I think that they will only put what's on the News to make him look good and tell the general public what they want to hear. The truth is not being told by the govt., why do you think that they are forcing it down our throats instead of letting us vote on it? Because they know that the American people won't accept it.

Short term, long term. Either way it's going to burn the American people.
