Help me out

Hi there, I am looking to get a sled and I am really new to this. I would love some advice from you guys that are familar with them. I am looking a a couple different ones and open to any. I have found that they are like everything else and everyone has there opion on what is best.
I have found a 07 ski doo 800 151" track that is low miles. Also a 2005 rmk 900 159". I am a new rider only been out a couple times. Is the 900 to much for me? To big to controll for a newbie? I found a couple places on the web that state the 05 900's have alot of issues? I havent found much on the ski doo. I would really appriciate any help you guys could give me or any suggestions as well. Thanx

you might avoid the 05 900, history of problems. good sled if you get one without the problems though. I like the way they handle and good power, but given the choice, I'd take the skidoo just to be safe, just my .02 cents. good luck with whatever you get, you'll be hooked:D

I am a polaris guy. Never owned anything but Polaris.
That being said and you being new to the sport.
I would stay away from the polaris 900. It had issues. Nothing that couldn't be overcome with some aftermarket stuff, but not something a noob would or should have to deal with.

If you go to the polaris section and do a search, you will find what I am talking about.

Don't know too much about the ski-doo, but given the choice of those two sleds. I would take the ski-doo.

Thanx for the imput, I have had a couple people tell me this now. I think you guys are right on this one, I dont see my self buying a first sled and wanting to start adding all sorts of stuff to it right away. I will keep on the hunt. I guess thier is always a reason that the good deals are good deals. lol

Something to keep in mind. The 07's Summits had a few clutch issues. The clutch would actually bind up as you ride. The sled itself is great. Just ask the seller if anything has been done to the primary clutch to help this.

The 07' doo had it's share of problems too. If you could find an 06 rev. they were a better sled than the 07. In my opionion the best sled you could start out with would be an M7, very dependable, go anywhere, and easiest of any of them to ride.

I'm not a Polaris guy, but I think one of the best sleds ever made was the Polaris 700 RMK. I had a '98 wedge and it was great, but I think if I were advising a friend, I'd say go get a 99 or newer 700 and just ride. They are fantastic.

i dont know anything about the ski-doo but please stay away from the poo 900. i had an 06 900 and yeah it hauled a$$ and could climb with the best of them but if it isn't set up with the right aftermarket parts now it will cost you at least a grand to get it set up to be reliable on the hill. however if the sled has all the aftermarket stuff on it, torque arms and vents and such, then it might be an ok option. but buyer definitely beware on the 05-06 poo 900's

07 doos had a lot more engine failures then the 05 900's.

I had a 05 900 and it did spend a lot of time in the shop but it was a great sled and i wish i still had mine. I took 57 pounds off the sled and i was never hi-marked by a rev.

First pics are from when i first got the sled and the last ones are what i turned it into.

I'm with Digger on this one. Don't know how big you are or what you weigh, but I would recommend the M7. Just go ride it until you feel you want something more. Like has been said, the 07 doo and the 900 rmk both had issues. Good sleds if set up right, but a PIA to get them right. I was Polaris faithful until I got my Apex, but I would still recommend the AC M7. Welcome to the addiction. :DThe pain dulls after a while! :eek::D:beer;

2006 Artic Cat M7. only 250 miles. mint condition. Has side panel air vents, goldfinger lefty throttle, polished tunnel and pipe and clutch cover, has camo plast extreme track, front shock springs and bogie wheels changed to orange just for a different look. other than that sled is completely stock. The sled has always been a spare sled and has hardly been ridden. I had the oil injection removed by cutlers, so now its premixed and it runs so much crisper. The oil injection can be put back on very easily.

What you guys think about this one? What is it worth as well? Thanks

I'd be inclined to agree with the suggestion to go with the M7. Great handling machine & will go any where you are capable of going. There are plenty of them around.

Think about what sled dealers (repair shops) you have near your location. These beasts inevitably need something fixed, so having a good dealer will help... and may influence you purchase.

That would be a nice sled but I would put the oil pump back on. I just don't like the hassle of mix the fuel, others like the oil delete better. Don't know where you are from and sled prices vary a lot by location. This time of year I would guess it would go in the mid $5000 range around here. They are about the same price as they were last year about this time.

I would stay away from the polaris 900. It had issues. Nothing that couldn't be overcome with some aftermarket stuff, but not something a noob would or should have to deal with.

My 900 is my first sled.... love it. A lot of the issues are blown out of proportion on here.... it is the internets; take it for what it's worth. They're great machines, if you're good at and don't mind a bit of wrenching, go for it. I'm real glad I went with it. You can find 'em for pretty cheap too, which helps.

I like the M7. I would have the oil injection put back on by a shop that can check it and bleed the lines. Very fun sled, get the Holz rear relocation bracket and have fun.
