I bought a 2007 Summit X 151 last year despite the bad press it has gotten, after getting the updates done, and some minor bugs worked out it seems to be running well, I have been very happy with it, so I want to put some aftermarket mods on to give me a bit more for the next season.
I have researched a few of the more popular mods, but I was hoping some of you can give me insight specifically how they work on the 2007 Summit 800R. I do most of my riding from 4000-7000 feet, deep powder, cold temps, but frequently also do trips where I am 10,000+ and don't want to be constantly having to adjust my machine, I want to still be able to pull and go, I can admit, I do not know how to tune, but am trying to learn how, but for now, I want to keep it simple and not get myself over my head, so it has to be reliable
1. The first one is the SLP performance kit, which I have read about in another thread, alot of good information, but I am more interested to hear the overall real world performance of the kit on a 2007 800R, rather than the published hp increase, does it make a noticable difference, does it require much tuning? do you need to change jetting depending on elevations? is it hard to install? would it be more worth it if say the kit was only $500?
2. Boondockers NOS kit, my biggest question is how is this kit on the engine? should I expect to have to rebuild the engine yearly? can you shut the NOS off, so that on the days you go into areas that you would not use it, you could shut it off? Again I don't want to be installing this if I expect to be burning up engines, or making the sled alot less reliable, I guess it obviously depends on how much your on the button? which on my case can't see averaging more than once per ride.
3. Dynamo Joe clutch kit, I have heard excellent stuff about his clutch kits, but find very little regarding the performance on the 2007 800R, how does the kit work in my particular machine? how does it stand up, and again how hard is it to install? Clutching on my machine was a disaster for the first part of the season, but after the updates, and getting the clickers set properly, it seems to pull good, but I still loose RPM's on a steep climb in deep powder, but thats natrual is it not? because its under more of a load than going flat?
4. V-Force Reeds, I really don't know much about these, are they worthwhile?
Even if any of these are hard to install, as long as once they are installed, they are reliable that is cool too, I am not impartial to taking it to my local shop where the ski-doo mechanic seems to be really good, and having them install it for me, as long as I wouldnt have to muck around with it afterwards
Thanks to anyone who reads through my longwinded post
