help me decide summit or renegade

I am going to buy a new skidoo this Sat.

I am trying to decide between a summit 146 or a renegade, I currently have an 07 renegade.

I do about 50% trail riding and 50% mountain riding.

If I buy the renegade I will put a 1.75" track on it which will make the total deal about $800 more expensive to buy the renegade

Also will the summit be ok for mild trail riding?

Thanks for your input.

my 07 summit had a 144 and it did awesome on even the bumpiest of trails.. i would go with the summit but it really is a toss up..

both are going to need shocks.. I prefer the shortest track I can get away with.. a renegade flies great if that what your into.. How many miles have you put on the 07?

You said mild trail riding, right? A 146 Summit will do great on the trail. I have an 08 Everest and an 09 X. The shocks on the X are smoother on the trails although the Everest shocks aren't too bad. Mountain riding the 146 Summit will go anywhere. Unless you are an aggressive trail rider there is no resaon to spend the extra money. I would recommend a set of Simmons skis though. They float great in the POW and rail on the trails. They are a better all around ski than either of the pilots. The Summit will be a very nice all around machine.

You live in Brookings SD, I'd go for the Renegade.

For the last 2 years I've been meeting some freinds from MN out in Island Park and riding with them. Last year 2 of them (brothers) each had brand new snowchecked XP Renegade X 600 SDI, with the 1 1/4" track. I was amazed where they went with those sleds.

If your into putting the Highmark on the hill then go with the summit, personally I think If I was riding trails 50% of the time (and lived in SD) I would go with the Renegade 137" with the 1 3/4" track. Just my .02 :)

it really depends on what type of riding is more important to you. if you really enjoy the mountains and just ride in SD occasionally and don't mind to give up trail performance the summit would be the way to go. If you are like me and still enjoy riding trails and ditches at home and don't want that much compromise with the longer track and uncoupled rear suspension, then go with the gade.

i ride my gade around MN with a studded track and i give up almost nothing to short track sleds and when i go out west i put a 144x2 on it which makes a fairly capable mountain sled. with a little work it is the best of both worlds.

ive got about 2000 on it...

I have one of each and I like the wider front end on the renegade and the shox are tuned for the trail and then rear suspension on the renegade is coupled and rides better overall. the 1.75 track would be a good addition!!! the summitt does ok on the trail ,,narrow front end ,,shocks valved for ther deep and rear for the deep thats why they made a renegade and a summitt but if you are biased towrds trails and sometimes in the powder you cant beat the renegade But thats just my opinion!!!!!

New Renegade on the way

Thanks for all of the input both here and on dootalk.com

My new renegade with the 1.75" track will be ready to pick up next Wed.
Hopefully going to the Black Hills on Thurs.

I notice that all of the Summits have the tracks ported, is that something that I should do to my renegade?
