Helmets... what's the best?

I have a big head 7 3/4 fitted sized . Heidi from helmet outlet in Hayden Lake ,ID turned me onto a shoei after trying on 20 diff. helmets, that just didn't fit right. I bought a shoei v-moto pulse . The fit was great and it is a very comfortable helmet. Helmet outlet is also a great place to buy a helmet. Just what work's for me !!!!!!!

I've got a FLY 606 I really like it but it doesn't fit my favorite goggles very well. looking for something with a better opening for my scott 89XTI's

i just got a gmax 37X mx lid i think iam going to like it
got it off ebay 75 shiped retail for 200

I'm supposed to be picking one of these up soon (37x DERK), either tomorrow or next week, they had to order my size in. My wife has a 46x. I'm getting my 37x for $150.

I have a HJC cs-air full face, it seems alot more solid than the wife's hers creaks and stuff while putting it on and off.. I just keep breaking breath guards on my full face, so I want to try a diff style.

like others have said it is very much personal preference. I have an hjc that is pretty comfy, but getting worn out. I also have a skidoo modular bv2s and it is a good helmet on those extremely cold days. This year I bought a klim helmet and have worn it exclusively this year, it is comfy and feels light. It runs small, and the goggles fit the opening tight, but I like it so far. Because of all the venting it can get chilly on those long trail rides in and out, but I try to stay off the trail as much as possible and this helmet keeps me from sweating so bad.

tryed out the helmet today on the quad with the new goggles and fits good vents do there job the scott 87xti's amp rose lens are nice headed on a trip
next friday i guess ill see how thay work on the snow

the goggles fit kind tight i was going to get progrip but i cant find um
what goggles out there that are a tad smaller then the 87 xti's?

I got my Gmax 37x Dirk today.. twas in, they never called me, I guess cause the other side wasn't in... I orders 2 sizes so I could see which would fit the best. I got the smaller size, fits tight, but I got used to it fast, the next size up I tried in a 46x, seemed quite a bit looser, a little on the side of too loose.

I ended up getting oakly L frame googles, cause they are otg and fit in the opening. I tried the o frame, but they're not otg.
I tried smith, and scott otg, they really didn't fit the opening in the helmet(too big), and didn't seem to seal as good as the oakleys. I looked at spy, but no otg.

A buddy of mine had a serious life threatening accident last year where his head got caught between a bridge and the handle bars of his sled while going under it. The cement from the bridge ground down his helmet to his skull and created excessive brain swelling. After a year, he is luckily fine after many surgeries, and months of rehab. He had a good A/C helmet.

I agree with Graveler. Why spend $100 on a cheap, plastic helmet, $300 on a coat, $10K on a sled. You need to protect your head, it's the most important part of your body. Spend the money on a good helmet that contains the proper protection when needed.

Everyone has opinions; however I also went with the Arai as Graveler, and will never have anything else.

There are a couple of good articles in some of the motorcycle magazines.... Which indicate some of the cheaper helmets that are Dot approved but not Snell approved may actually protect your head better. Real world in a higher speed impact, probably doesn't much matter what happens to your head and helmet as one will probably break his neck anyway. I think we might be better served to start thinking about wearing collars.

As I recall from reading the latest info... the recent snell requirements make the helmets stiff and less crushable; but the issue is that they pass on too much of an impact from a hit to the head.. and the head can't take it. The lesser priced DOT only helmets distribute the energy more and don't pass as much of the blow on to the head. I used to be a Snell snob in the old days.. but after reading the latest articles.. I am questioning that position. It is one of the reasons I have not purchased a helmet to meet the new 2005 standards.

Another vote for M2R Revelation X2 helmet.. they are light..I also have an old HJC AX01's Azolite which is also about as light as the M2R. I believe all helmets have gotten heavier since the new helmet requirements in 2005 when both Dot and Snell were "improved?"

As long at it costs more than $110 (I think that's the minimum you have to spend to get a helmet worth wearing), which ever is most comfortable on your head (it varies person to person).

I like my One Industries Kombat the best out of the helmets I've had. Lots of people like Flys, mine was ok but its shape felt wierd on my head.

I started out with full face/ modular helmets. When you first start wearing a MX helmet it does feal weird, but once you are used to it and then try to wear a full face again, you will hate full face's. The visibility just does not compare never mind weight and ventilation. I brought my Lazer modular out of the closet one day because it was wicked cold out and it felt like a space helmet (as in Niel Armstrong). I had to tilt my chin down and look up to see out of the darn thing.

***Review***
Well I just got back from a 2.5 hour rip.. so far my Gmax 37X Dirk seems good, in an open field above 70mph with a head wind I could feel my right ear start to frost bite... it's about -20C right now... that was the only time I was cold. I did 90-95mph with no wind(tree line 20ft to my right where the wind would have been coming from.) I was still warm.... for the most part I was baking in that helmet. So much condensation that when i stopped at a store to pick up some juice I looked like a Persiate(sp) you know a chinhead from Andromeda.. heh Ummm the googles the oakley's seem pretty good, I did start to fog at lower speeds when I was cooking, but as soon as I hit 25-30mph my glass would defog.

So far, I'd have to say I like this helmet better than my HJC CS-air full face, and better than a GMax 46X. The 37X Dirk is an MX "type" helmet, but you can take off the visor and repalce it with a shield for the nasty nasty cold days, visibily with the shield looks like it would be really really good, there's no solid(as in not see through) boarder so it keeps visibility of the MX style helmet, with no googles. So those of you who like full faces, but want better visibility, this is good for that.

I had the chin curtain installed and the breath deflector, I'd say this breathe deflector is the best one I've used so far(compared to the one in the CS-air and the 46x) The helmet fits quite snug, almost tight on me, but yet is easier to get on and off than the cs-air which fits loose compared to the 37x when on. I do think when it's warmer out I will remove the chin curtain(3 snaps), and when it's colder put it back in.

even though my cs-air is still good, so far i'd say it looks like the 37X will be worth the money in more enjoyable rides, as with cs-air I could ride for about 15-20min and something would fog, then I'd have to lift the shield and freeze my eyes, today is the hardest i think I've ever ridden. WEEEEEE frink, how do you guys do it, I was only out for 2.5hours and I'm so tired i could pass out, who ever said snow-mobiling isn't exercise can go jump off a cliff with out a sled :P My heart rate is just starting to go back down... hehe

I love my Bell Moto 8, but any nice helmet like a Bell, TLD, Shoei, Arai, Fox, I mean, who can go wrong! All helmets fit different, Bells fit my melon, so I bought it! I don't even look at a helmet unless its over 200, guess you get what you pay for, and when it comes to a helmet, I don't mind eating Top Roman for a month!

I just bought a helmet from sandhillspowersports as well. Very good price and very fast shipping. Ordered it on a monday on my door on wednesday. By the way, i ordered the HJC carbon titan.
