Heat related cut-out on top end

so on my last ride my sled started cutting out on the top end. it is not a rev limiter issue or and intake bog issue.

on a longer pull it would run perfect at the start but part way into the pull, it would start to cut out. it would be pulling 8200, then stutter and drop to 7600ish, then pop back to 8200, then very quickly stutter again dropping the rpms even further. the longer i stayed on it the more it would stutter and the lower the rpms would drop until i would be forced turn out or get stuck. once it started it wouldn't stop until i let it set for a while. the longer i let it set, the longer a pull i could then make before it would start to stutter again, but it would always end up cutting out. it was definitely related to something heat soaking. regulator? stator? coil? other options? thanks

I had a similar issue at the end of last year on my pro, changed the fuel filter and problem solved. Seemed like mine was starving for fuel after long pulls. Had about 1100 miles on it... Hope this helps

i put on a new filter this year. it only has 6 or 7 hundred miles on it. it didn't really feel like a fuel issue but is worth checking. i'll have to look into how to check the parts using my ohm meter. thanks.

not a turbo. what plugs are you running? what gap? i am changing plugs and caps but don't think that will do anything. testing in the next couple of days.

something else i should point out is that it also has trouble going into reverse. more often than not, it will die rather than go into reverse. after a number of tries it will eventually go into reverse. my tps is set correctly and is in spec. could these be related.

i'm putting new plugs and caps on before my next ride tomorrow. i would love for that to fix it but i will be surprised if it does. we'll find out tomorrow.

Keep us posted. I've been having a simliar problem. Checked and double checked the TPS, tss, spark plugs, wiring and all grounds.

p.v. mine was doing the same, changed pipe temp sensor and it hasn't stumbled since. However the dealer said it could be any number of things (electrical) that would make it do that. He also said the '11's seem to be more finicky than the '12s with minor sensor cutouts

Exhaust temp sensors have been causing similar problems when they fail. Also for reverse, a lot of times it's simply dirty plugs. Changing out for a clean pair of plugs usually fixes the reverse issues you are talking about.:face-icon-small-coo

caps and plugs did not fix the issue. neither did bumping the octane, but i didn't expect that to have an effect. funny you mention the probe b/c that was the next thing i was going to change. in fact ran to the dealer to pick one up this afternoon before they closed and he had sold the last one he had in stock 15 minutes earlier.

i was bummed so to make myself feel better i bought a new sled. :)

i'm going to see if i can steal a probe from a buddy tomorrow and see if that makes a difference. i'll update after i test. after that it will be regulator, coils, stator, ecu, injectors, etc... (could get expensive real fast)
