Head Discoloration

Okay guys have an orange RTK head. It looks discolored, darker orange around the spark plugs about as big as the piston. Not quite as big on the clutch side. Sled ran like a top for 3 days of good riding at West Last weekend. Is this normal or what should I look for?

I would think heat is the culprit. I've seen a pretty blue head turn to puke brown in a matter of minutes, after losing a water pump belt.

I was wondering about heat. That's why there's more on the exhaust side. Sled never ran above 135 though.. Will I be safe to ride it or?

TRS $28 mod coming over the summer I'ma thinkin..

No ,don't ride it till you get the head repainted. You will look like a beginner otherwise!! JUST JOKING.

My pink Mohawk should throw them off right? So sounds like it's just heat and should be nothing to worry about? Just seemed odd after 2 rides and nothing, now after another trip it decides to do this.

On the flipside, I was pulling 65.8 grams on my roosters at about 9000'. Got about 225 miles on the drop in kit stacked with SLP stage 2 and pulling harder and harder every mile. Boo ya!! Need some different exhaust springs. Either Pink(slp) or Green/white. Thinkin TKI belt drive for next year.

Talk to Kelsey, I dont get why people post this stuff for random people to answer, Kelsey will have a MUCH more accurate answer for you, I mean he did build the head you'd think he'd actually know a lot about these things.

Alright fellas. Talked to Kelsey on the phone, he's never seen this. Never even heard of it. Go figure, my luck.

Put a small flashlight are bore scope in the spark plug hole, see if you see anything obvious. Compression ok?

Haven't checked. Been busy with school, surgery next week, so just trying to tie up loose ends that need to be. Maybe I can get lucky and check compression tmaro.

Okay compression is 130-135 both cylinders. Hard to tell sitting in the machine shed when its dark and -5* out. Looked inside and everything seemed to look good. Should pick up a little compression if it was sitting in the heated shop correct?

You should heat the engine up to operating temps and make sure you hold the throttle wide open when checking. Pull the starter over roughly five times.

You want to be within about 2 psi between the two cyliders. Any more is not a good sign.
