Having hard time jumping ship from Doo

Like the title says, really want to snowcheck a new 155 pro but having a difficult time convincing myself to take the chance on the 800 cfi motor.:face-icon-small-dis My last Pol was a 05 900 and I sold it for a 05 800rev and have since owned 7 doos since then including 3 xp's with little to no problems other normal doo clutch maintenance. The pol 800 seems like they are only good for about 2k miles and then after that is just luck of the draw. I have always trail ridden my sleds back home here in MN and the doo's have always been finemsuspension wise and also cooling as well. I'm not sold on the piston kits offered by a couple that claim to fix the problem and don't want to buy a crank from Indy Dan either. Torn between the new XM and a new pro but the more I read on here the more I see myself riding a new doo again. Opinions and advice are welcomed. Thanks in advance.

I think it is a win win.
You do not bleed yellow or green so go with what you are comfortable with. The PRO is light, Flickable (Doo bleeders hate this word so I will use it) and the chassis works very well. It has had problems and there are some new features this next year that are untested. New sleds can have issues and the 3 or 4th year build is usually the best.
This goes for the Doo as well but it has had good reviews from guys that are not partial and no doubt the engine is good. It is a first year with the T motion and flex track. This is untested by the everyday rider but it seems to work on the test sleds.
I can tell you that these are machines that will make you grin from ear to ear and the only bad choice is not making one.

I have an 11 pro..never been back to the shop since bought new...that said..turn the oiler up so it burns a qt of oil per tank and add a pint to each tank of fuel and should have good results...(same crank as the dragons and it was rare you heard of a dragon getting a crank or bearings)they just arnt getting enough oil as deleivered.....

Buy the Doo. I'm tired of only seeing PRO's on top of the ridges. It might be nice to see a different color for a change. Sounds like the new Doo might be able to make it up to the top with the rest of us. LOL

Belt drive and the new boards plus 4 year warranty made me buy a new pro for 13. I have had doo for along time also if the pro does not hold up the warranty will help resale.

Have '11 pro, bought new and never had it back to shop. Absolute blast in mountains. However, I have never ridden it back here in flats other than from trailer to shop. I would guess that unless you ride in 3-4 inches of fresh at least, it would have a hard time keeping temps down. On mountain trails I always have both scratchers down & sometimes thats not enough, always divin' off in fluff, but thats where the pro shines:face-icon-small-coo

You seem to be in the same situation that I find myself in, which sled to snowcheck for next year, the Pro or the XM. Each sled has it's strong points
according to what I've read. Didn't have the opportunity to ride either of these sleds when they had demo rides, so I have to go with what reviews out there have said. Would be nice to be able to have one of each, but thats not going to happen as far as I know.
My current sled is an XP that has been trouble free would just like to update.

What he said!!!!

More oil and good gas (or good additive). Pull and go.

If I was you, I would stick with Skidoo for the simple fact that you already have the matching jacket!!!

I rode Doo since 96 until I bought a new 12 Pro.
It has been nothing short of amazing with no problems or issues whatsoever.

I think there is so much paranoia on this forum right now that is overblown.
Yes some have issues but no brand is immune to them.
If one sled goes down a thousand people hear about it and pretty soon its " I heard of a friend of a friend's cousins' sled blah blah"-you get the picture.

I think either sled will be great just don't let all you hear scare you.
There are many many satisfied Pro owners on here too!:face-icon-small-coo

If I have one more motor failure with Polaris, I may go back to Doo again. My 11 Pro has 1850 miles with just a bad TPS, my 12 just got a whole new motor because of a bad oil pump fitting at 600 miles. I love the handling of my Pro, but losing motors is getting old.

I'm in the same boat been on m series since 05 my 09 has 7500 kms want new sled.like how pro works and how its put together just scared of polaris engine and electrical.for me its buy 12 cat and mod to make it right or go with pro.

I live in Michigan and own the 12 pro. I have been to Wyoming, Idaho, Montana and Michigan with it. Love it so for. Plus the new one is approx. 50lbs lighter than the doo with Polaris Clutching. I checked out the 13 last weekend in Jackson Hole. The shorter seat will be nice getting from side to side. The Polaris just handles so well in the powder with out the need to go to a 35" ski stance or articulating skid.

With that said I heard the new XM is handles real nice in the powder.

I was riding skidoos for years, got really tired of replacing cranks because of blown seals. ( 3 of them, all different sleds) ..same with bulkheads..went with Polaris in 2010 and never looked back! Love the sleds, lightyears ahead imo. Buy the extra warr if your worried about issues.

I sold my 2011 M8 Cat turbo now going to a Pro. Just don't think you can beat the mountain feel and handling. I have a couple buddies who have them and love them. I think I will be able to ride longer on one each day with out getting beat up as much. Let's face it to every pound that is shed is one less pound that I have to yank on when I am stuck 5 times a day. haha

I am one of those that had problems but I am still going to check a 13'.

However, I learned that you need to turn up the oil pump and run 1 to 3/4 ounce of oil per gallon of gas in the fuel tank. If I had known that back in 2011 I may not have been one of the unlucky 13% +/-.

I don't have an idea on the skirt failures so I can't speak of them. Just ring and piston issues that seem to go away with extra oil.

Definitely buy atleast the 2 year and do 4 year warranty if you plan on owning it that long.

Hey frog!

You know I was a long-time Doo guy until I fell to the dark side and bought a 2011 Pro. I couldn't be happier. I'm sure the new XM will handle much better than the XP's BUT it is STILL a heavier sled. One huge benefit to the Pro is that it's so light that I honestly don't get stuck much anymore and, then even if I do, it's super easy to get out. Let me put it this way - I have not been to see my chiropractor since I've switched!

Nuff said,

I have both a 12 ETEC and a 12 Pro. The only place the Pro shines is in the steep and deep. Worst trail suspension ever(I guess not ever but of the top 3 for sure). It doesn't even turn very well on the trail. Engine is a question mark, not sure how pouring more oil down it get the cylinder skirts to not break off. If you are going to ride a lot of trails in MN and go West for a week or two the Doo is a much better sled. On the Doo side is the suspension for the rough trail, fit and finish, reliability, COMPANY THAT ACTUALLY WARRANTIES PROBLEMS!, gas mileage, etc. The current Doo is great mountain sled too AND it does all the other stuff really well too. The Pro is a one trick pony with a bomb under the hood. I will be snowchecking a 13 XM and a Pro. lol. I ride a lot of steep and deep and can put up with all the downsides for that on the Pro. I will lighten it up even more than stock and leave the drive train stone stock, not even a can. No excuse for Poo to deny a warranty claim. The new Doo is really untested on the trail so that could be an issue. I haven't heard anyone who has blasted down a trail at 85mph yet and said if it is unstable but i haven't ridden a Doo that wasn't a decent ride on the way in or out of the backcountry.
