Have a question about a cluth/belt need help

07 M1000 new 046 belt, the belt sits about 3/16" below the top of the secondary and I have about 2" of deflection and the track and sled wants to move forward, it seams that the primary needs to be opened up but 3 dealers said they have never shimmed or taken shims out of a m clutch. they just said to adjust the secondary, What do you guys think?

if you take a feeler gauge and slide it down between belt and outside sheave should have ~.020in max clearance. usually there is more and people want to shim the spider in which is supposed to be a pain. if the track just barely spins with it running on the stand and it doesn't squeel on the snow should be good but 3/16in below secondary seems low usually they are flush or a little above

stuck weight/roller on primary not allowing it to open?

I think 3/16" might be a bit low as well but it shouldn't cause any problems. Is the belt brand new, as in 0 miles? Usually I put ~50 miles on a new belt so it stretches out and then make adjustments, because it will stretch.

If you want, try another belt(your spare). I've seen variations between belts that are supposedly the same, but from a different batch, so maybe you just got one that's slightly shorter than spec.

I think it's unlikely that your issues are related to the primary.

Its is a new belt and when I put it on, the sled took off and its .035 wider than my old belt. I took my primary to two dealers and had them look at it and I checked it over as well and it is working fine. I have slp mtx weights and slp black/yellow spring. Maybe the belt (046) is to wide. what do you guys think run it or take it back? Thanks for the help

It's more likely that it's too short than too wide. .035 difference is probably due to wear on the old belt.

You need to try a different 046. Put on your spare, if it works properly, take the new belt back to the dealer and ask for a replacement.

my M7 had the same problem, flat spot on a roller, clutch would stick bad, almost launched over the truck when loading a couple times before I replaced it. hard to see it when the clutch is assembled as the spring will be pressuring the weight against the roller, hiding the flat spot. I'd be willing to bet this is your problem, remove the spring and make sure your rollers are smooth, not worn thru, and rotate easily. If there is no visual evidence, clean it thouroughly (dishwasher when wife is away). This is a common problem with these clutches, the rollers wear out. 2" of deflection with your belt 3/16 into your secondary is about what one would expect.

I run 046 belts on my 07 M1k and have had no problems, it is not too wide.

Thanks for all the help, I will check the rollers tomorrow, do you think the rollers could keep the sheaves from opening? and what should the belt deflection be?
