Has anyone sued Ski-Doo over their XP?

When bought a new cat a couple years ago the primary clutch blew apart half way through the season. The dealer (who also sells doo) gave me the clutch off his demo sled so I could keep riding until they got me a new warranty clutch. It a dealer like that you go back to over and over.

parts

last year when parts were short my dealer started ripping apart a brand new 08 for his customers needs, now that is careing to your customers needs. he does all his own tuning and knows whats going on with the machine. action motorsports

Or you could be like Graveler - if you have any sled problems just give it back to the guy you borrowed it from and go back to searching for XP threads on Snowest for the rest of the day.

Update

Okay first off Larry at Mac's Cycle ROCKS! He has burned up the phone lines with BRP and finally some action has taken place. He went toe to toe with the area rep (I was there) after the rep was telling me, "well clutching had nothing to do with the blowing belt"... I could have hit the guy (yea I know it was alignment...gearing...bad belts..) and then he said, "the changes is 09 were to improve performance, not because of the belts"... AND THEN HE TELLS ME, "consider yourself lucky you didn't buy an 07 Summit, now THOSE HAD PROBLEMS"... okay, the guy has drank the BRP Kool-Aid and wants to hang on to his job.

The letter I sent to BRP.. it was nice but I explained things needed to be resolved or legal action was going to follow... they called me immediately and asked for more time... then "I fell through the crack (they said)" and nothing happened. That is when Larry went to bat... we now have new springs all the way around, had the clutch inspected by a BRP mechanic (he said it is junk) and now they want the sled back to check for engine crank damage... so all in all, Mac's Cycle gets an A++++, and BRP get a C-... but they still have a chance to make it right and with extra credit get an "A" I will let you know how this comes out.. Mike

Sounds like you are getting it all worked out - good for you. It is definitely all about the dealer. Here is a picture of my 08 Summit 146". 400 miles on it and poof - literally. Happened 5 minutes from my dealer in late March on the last ride of the season, and they helped me out.

Ski-doo and I agreed that no one was at at fault, but.....

I didn't hire a lawyer (and probably could have dome a little better on the deal if I had taken that route - but how much longer would it take?) I am picking up my 09 X 146" this weekend.

Good luck - it may take a little persistence but you will get there.

if you know.what caused that?

if you know.what caused that?

BRP "investigated" the sled and told me the y-pipe fell off. (I have thoughts that something happened in the exhaust can and a LOT of unburnt fuel was building up in there until it finally ignited.)

We were "trail riding" in the UP of Michigan about 40 miles at 60-80 mph average. About halfway I knew something was funny because it started sounding funny. My riding group agreed something wasn't right, but a quick check of everything visible on the sled seemed OK (I thought I had lost a couple springs on the exhaust canister). We figured we'd drive to the hotel and check it out there. Got to the hotel, looked at the right side of my sled and saw a tiny little flame coming out of the panel. There was NO snow around only crusty ice, and in 5 minutes it was burnt toast. That happened 100 feet from an AC dealership - they used their fire extinguisher earlier that day on a cat :) so they were empty... Someone finally grabbed one from the hotel that was also close, and the fire department showed up...

I was never able to confirm since the sled stayed at the dealer the whole time (7 hours from home).

They gave me this whole story about how a y-pipe falling off can't cause this... But they offered a very nice settlement and a "no fault" agreement... I think with the help of my dealer and a little persistence it was worked out in a fair manner. Hats off to BRP for making something right and doing it fairly.

I get the feeling like BRP obviously knows they fooked up and rushed the XP out the door and is now playing the " If I don't look at the problem maybe it'll just go away game.."

Now the dealerships who are into selling new machines ( street bikes , quads etc. ) and doing minor amounts of warranty work have basically had to turn a good portion of their staff into damage control to repair the skidoo name and draft their local populous to manage the floor of issues that have came with the XP..

Its good that BRP wants to be the first to provide "break-though technology" but maybe they should work on removing the "break" out of that statement first.. I could have waited untill '09 to get an XP if it meant I didnt have to drive a belt blowin, oil leaking, wire shorting lemon..

Good thing it's the most fun, nimble, awesome lemon I have ever driven..

I have a 03 rmk 800 for sale and I am seriously thinking about selling my 08 xp and keeping the old edge. Went for a rip this afternoon in the stubble field in front of my house in the 4" of snow and shredded my 6th belt, 2nd 377. Phoned 3 dealers and they all say that they will warrenty the 166 belts but not the 377 belts. One dealer says there are some new clutch parts on the way and the ather 2 dealers say that there are no clutch updates this winter for the 08's. WTF The dealers, Reps and customer service 1800 # guys all have different stories. I have phoned them all. They are making a bad problem worse by not giving out any information. This makes them all look like liars.
Last year I went through 3 belts in 250 km one weekend.
The sled has been to the dealer for clutch work 4 times.

Same story at two local dealers. One says to book my xp in for the clutch updates (mid dec) and the other said "I don't know where they are getting thier info from, I haven't seen anything" Also pisses me off that I have to find out about updates from people who have had them done and not a letter or phone call from my dealer. I also asked about a rumoured dealer "tech tip" on clutch alignment. Sevice guy looked at me sideways and had no idea what tech tips were. INCOMPITANT LOOSERS
