Looking to modify my stock seat set up on my 97 RMK. I was going to get a Edge seat and tank and modify it to fit my sled, but I was thinking why not just add foam to my stock seat and have it recovered?

Has anyone done this and if so do you have pictures so I have an idea of what it would look like and also so I could show my shop so they could have a better idea.

I Just finished doing this a month ago. took the plastic seat frame, chopped 14" off it and riveted it back together. marked where the bolts go through the seat frame onto the tunnel and drilled 2 holes just like it was attached before. Change the light to an LED trailer light, which is brighter than the stock tail light, and it draws less current so my headlamp also got brighter. I COULD have reused the old foam, but decided to bite the bullet and went to an upholster and got foam cut and glued into a size and height that I had figured I was going for. Cut the foam to fit onto the frame then I SLOWLY removed material from the sides to get a profile I was happy. I used winter vinyl from a local fabric store and pleaded with my friends Mom who has experience recovering cushions etc. I reused the stock snaps on the tunnel to reattach the seat at the front. I used mostly high density, but put 2 inches of medium on top for a plush feel. If I were to do it again I would probably use only high density. Here are a few pics.

Hope this helps!

Hey, if you look on the "lets see those wedges" mine is on the second page and there is a few pics on there of what i did, well what i had my upholstery guy do!!! He basically just added some foam and i had him shape it on top so it was narrower and then wrap it and keep the logo on and leave the rear stuff alone cause it was fine....

So for those of you that have added height to your seats did you notice is was a big difference in riding style?

Can't honestly say at this point only put a mile or two on the sled since the change and that was in the back yard and didn't sit on it once. Can't see it being anything but better though, since I raised the handlebars 8" so I could stand. that put the handlebars pretty close to my eye level when sitting on the stock seat......

The nice thing is if you have raised bars is that your arms arent as ape hangin high, you are sitting higher so you got a better view when riding trails and sitting! makes for a softer seat too.... its a little bit more of a jump when you gotta jump over to the other side quick but its nice to have right it there when kneeling on it! Ive had mine done for a few years now and i like it!!

Cut up, modified seats is what we do to get sleds prepped for the Iron Dog. Looks like you guys are ready to go! Good work.
