hard starting, load up?

took my new-to-me '09 D8 out for my first ride on it yesterday. Like the sled, still getting used to it, but I like it so far.

Had a hard time getting it to start a couple times. It happened when it was at full operating temperature. It behaved like it was loading up. When I would crack the throttle, and pull the rope, it would fire, but again it seemed like it was loaded up.

anyone else have this issue?

I'm used to my M7, where it always started, no hesitation. Is this something I should expect with my D8?

Every Po i have owned needed a little throttle, can't say for your exact sled, or the cfi's, but I too have an updated 09 800 i'm about to fire up soon and will let you know!

I had a friend call me last week and his is doing the same thing, I think I crack the throttle on mine but its out of habit from everything I ride. I need to pay attention. make sure your throttle cable is tight

this is key^^. Everytime a Poo CFI has a hard start issue, I've found the throttle cable to have excessive slack.

I never crack my throttle, it fires right up. Did you AND your dealer put in break-in oil in the tank?

I have electric start on mine so it probably doesn't matter if I crack the throttle or not

no, on the oil double-up. It's only running the VES gold stuff from the injection system.

I will check the cable adjustment and see. The thing is that when it's cold, it starts 2nd pull every time, just like my M's. it was ok when it was hot, and I hadn't let it idle, but if it idled for a bit, and I shut it off, it would take me cracking the throttle a bit to get it to fire off. I'd gently rev it, and it would clean out.

polar, I have a feeling alot of these sleds doing the load up are gonna be traced back to the tps setting(last season a lot of dealers might have fudged them a little rich to help with the mid range lean spot) oddly I havent heard of one 2010 sled doing this..just updated sleds..I would be taking it in to the dealer and having them check the tps with a high quality digital multimeter...

Thanks all for the helpful suggestions.

I called my dealer today. Great attitude, I told him the details of when it does it, and what I do to correct it. He shared with me that I'm now #4 of his customers that has told him about this issue, and as of right now, he does not have an answer, but he is pursuing it with Polaris.

It's like it's flooding (I know it's fuel injected) just a little bit, perhaps the new map is extra rich at the bottom end, or maybe it's holding an injector open for a moment. If I give it a few minutes (like getting unstuck) it fires off great, it's when you stop your engine to chat for 30 seconds, then try to start it.

It's funny, cuz when you hit the PERC, it stops the engine, and it fires backwards, so you would think it would have the same issues, but no, the PERC works fine.

Any other ideas?

mine is a hit or miss..sometimes fires like GI joe.. others i crack the throttle to get it to fire ..same with pec sometime in and with no prob other times in and stalls coming out..

Do you have the boondocker box on it? They are having issues with their box and they are currently working on a fix. The symptoms you are describing are the same ones they are having.

I would rather have your issue then mine, mine will not go into reverse 75% of the time, it will die and start back up in forward or just die, pisses me off

your sled needs the tps set..anytime you have a problem with dieing and such when going in and out of reverse it is a tps setting..take it to the dealer and ask them to set the tps using a digital multimeter and harness vrs using the digital wrench(digital wrench isnt accurate enough to set it on these sleds....

I am having this same thing happen with the new update to my sled, my sled needs the thottle crack to start when its warm. Never did it before. Also I have flooded the motor trying to start it the first time I went to start it warm without cracking the thottle, and it just wouldn't start after many pulls. Held her wide open and pulled and it started on second pull. It was so dead from fuel that I almost pulled the plug to see if I was getting spark before I tried holding it wide open. Doesn't seem to be a big thing had to do the same on all my polaris 800 carb models but it is worth a talk with my service manger to have him check cable and thottle p sensor. Thanks for the post.
