I had a 2000 Mountain Max 700 that I bought 1 year old and rode for 4 seasons without doing anything but plugs, clutches, lube, gas and oil. My '04 REV 800 beats the old MM hands down performance wise but after 2 seasons, I had to have the motor rebuilt so in my humble opinion, Doo should NOT be second for reliability...

most reliable sleds i've owned are my m7 and my old '90 indy 500 i used to ride. i know people say the old poo 700s were bullet proof but my 99 rmk was the least reliable sled i've ever owned, rebuilt that thing constantly and replaced the crank in it and about three other poo 700s in the group ranging from '99-'03.

that being said i'd still have to say yamaha takes the crown as most reliable sleds overall.

Kinda suprised with the number of votes for polaris after the 800 crank issues 900 all around issues and 800 motor issues, but i guess the 6-700's are great sleds.

I voted Yamaha but my father in law has a 95 550 Cougar that he bought from a rental company in Yellowstone at the end of the first year it was new. Got it with full paper work on all the service done... other then a set of spark plugs and a belt the folder was empty. The sled currently still gets used yearly and just about to turn over 9000 miles... still the original pistons... new gas every year, set of plugs, clean the carbs and pull the rope she starts right up.

trusty steed

yammie mtn max....put 8500 miles on it and the thing never broke once and still was in excellent running condition and it's very durable for a sled but not a very good deep powder chassis, yammie make great stuff far as dependability....distant second i would go with an m series which is what i ride.....poos and doos are 500 mile time bombs, at least that's what the salesman told me

We've had AWESOME luck with our 2007 Polaris Dragon 700 and both our 2002 RMK's (600 & 800) were great too! Not such good luck with my 2005 Artic Cat M7 (even before modifications) nor with our 2008 Polaris Dragon 800 or 2009 Polaris Dragon 800 - the 2009 was definitly a big improvment though. I'm afraid to get rid of my Dragon 700 b/c it's been so dependable! Think I'll just hang on to it for a couple more years and hopefully my husbands 09 Dragon 800 turns out to be more reliable this year with the new engine. LOL

no question yamaha ..and I own 2 polaris as well, yammi?? 4000 mi a year HARD mountain riding hittin rev limiter all the time...never fails unless I wreck it...lol....

U figure you can ride a R1 (basicly apex motor) 40,000 miles like a crazy man and it never breaks, 15,000 rpm to boot. but just my opinion.

All I can say is my elan from my younger years was bullit proof :D I miss bogey wheels

My dad still runs my old Moto-SKi:eek: Its single sprocket/driver design it left a dam cool track in the snow. :beer;

Do these polls really mean anything. I think most people just vote for the sled they currently ride. I voted AC because that is what I have. If I had a doo or poo I would have voted for that particular brand.

I ride Doo voted Yammie.. my most reliable Doo was a 06 Summit 600 SDI.. never turned a wrench on the sled other than setting the clutch and shocks to my lking

In the words of Davidoff... YAMAHA BABY!
Ive seen quite a few Yamies with 8-10,000 on the original engine.
Old dude up in the Yaak has a VK540 with 14,000 and still runs like a champ.
supprised cat had that many votes. Did everyone forget about the Powder Special? LOL.

yami for reliable all together

But for a real mountain sled M7 is the longest standing since 05 and m8 after 07, unless its a turbo then yami takes it again. You guys say a M is not even a question but there are far more M's and yamis with turbos for a reason.

IMO
Any 4 stroke is going to have the least amount of cost to run. Not having to mix oil and except for the r1 usually run lower rpm. However power to weight ratio suck's arse. (Turbo'd 4 strokes excluded:D)
I voted for Arctic Cat. That's what I ride 03 1m 800 efi. If I was buying a new sled 2010 M8 or M1000. Not so much the reliability, I like the way the M series handles. Poo's feel top heavy to me (layed an IQ on it's side within 10feet) and doo's feel like a tank to me.
If you're looking for a new sled ride all of them and compare them for handling, and what you like. Everybody likes the brand of sled they have. And no matter what It's going to break down on you at some point, Quicker if you don't find and remove the factory tree magnet;)
