handling trouble: 02 summit 144 vs 93 XLT 136

I've recently upgraded from a 93 XLT to a 02 Summit. I haven't ridden the Summit many days, nor in great conditions, but I'm finding it tough to get used to the handling. I can carve circles in powder and even ride down a hardpack trail with a ski in the air on the XLT without a problem. When I try the same on the Summit I tip over very easily. I have had one fairly deep powder carving session where it felt pretty good, but in mixed conditions I just end up on my side.

I know some of this is just getting used to the sled, but the "balance" of it feels off. I have a bit of riser on each sleds handlebars, maybe 4" which I plan to extend on the summit in time. I'm also planning on swapping the ski stance to the wider option in hopes of greater stability. I really don't care about trail performance, but I do tandem a fair amount for ski access so I guess that could be a plus.

Advice? Just get used to it? widen ski stance? Adjust the suspension up front(think it is on the stiffest setting)?

Eventually I want to be able to carve in powder as well if not better than the old XLT, but I'm a bit confused at the moment.

Its the weight. That xlt has some serious###s on the summit. It'll just take some getting used to. Ive been down that road I still own my old triple and it feels like the weight has advantages at times. Like you don't have to be as precise with adjustments.
One thing you could try is keeping your leg in front of you instead of behind when carving, kinda like on a dirt bike.

On the summit, ur trying to hard. Just sit down and u can do what u did on ur xlt hanging off one side. On my old 2000 700 I could do donuts and side hill and ride down the trail on one ski sittin on my azz. If ur standing it takes very little effort.
