Hand guards

I made an L shaped piece of aluminum so the guard is held from turning by a ty-rap. The ty-rap will break before the guard does.

Polaris mounts and guards, they are off my Dragon and both mounts have been broke at least 2 times. I still need to adjust them.

So which mounts are those?? I bought some and they hit my windshield and seem to need to be mounted all the way up under the crossbar mount to be high enough. They are Poo "Pro Taper" mounts supposidly. Plus I broke one trying to bend it up and in a little more so they would work :twitch:

does anyone have pics of how they mounted their handguards on the base model RMK?
with the controls and the bigger throttle/kill switch, it doesnt seem like there is much room at all

I have the Skinz guards and love them, they don't provide as much protection or look as nice as the plastic ones on a solid mount, but don't break. It's also nice that you can take them off in a few seconds if you don't need them.

Put them on both my sleds this year. I like that they give more wind protection and won't break off. Buddy had to roll his sled over last year to get unstuck and snapped off one of the Polaris mounts. Been looking ever since and I think these are awesome. I will let you know more after a few trips out.

probends

pic kinda sucks, might poast more with sled in snow this weekend...

The standard ROX billet mounts can be made to work. The left side is a no brainer. Mount between brake master cylinder and grip. The right side is where you need to get a little creative. Step one, loosen the throttle block and pus it snug up against the grip. Remove the trim plate from the end of the throttle block and take a dremmel tool to it to remove material where necessary to give the billet mount as much space as possible. Use the dremmel to make a small relief notch in the bottom of the Throttle block for the wiring to pass thru as well. Now the fun part. Mount the bilet mount and loosely assemble the guard. Take a wild *** guess at the angle you need to change then disassemble everything. Put the billet mount in the oven on broil for about 10 minutes to soften the aluminum which allows you to twist the part that sticks forward from the bar mount to get the hand guard mount parallel to the bars.

After it cools, reassemble the right side completely. On the left side, to even out the dstance between the guards and the center of the bars you need to drill one more mount hole in the guard so you can move it inwards to match the right side.

I can post some pics tonight from home.

These are the best pictures I have on my old IQ. I got the pro taper mounts and polaris gaurds and made them work on the standard bars.

trikerider, can you please post a couple more pics of the mounts at the bar and also at the hand guard attachment? I have mine mounted and the bottom of the mount is as snug up to the bottom of the crossbar mount as possible to get, and the top of the guard is barely over the top of the bar at the grip. WTF?? Maybe I'm an idiot :face-icon-small-hap Thanks in advance.

another vote for cycra's here. I wanted something that wouldn't break off the first time i rolled it over to get out.

On the Cycra guards, what mounts do you have? I have the wrong mounts which are twisting my guards a bit.

WHo mE?

I used these http://store.cycraracing.com/atvspbarclse.html

I still shortend both ends of the mount, drilled new holes to get them to fit right. they are stout though, you could pick the sled up by them.

One of the guys i rode with last year has a e-tec, he got stuck and someone came to help pull him out grabed the skidoo factory handguard and snap off it went.....theres 50 bucks! ive seen the polaris ones break off from rolling the sled over, which is sometimes the best way to get un stuck. I wanted something tough, looked over at my wr450 and said those sons of biaches will get-er-done.

those cycra mounts are ridiculous and very ugly. way to much to just mount a pair of hanguards. i also don't like how they attach to the end of the bars, i like not having anything on the ends of my bars. the actual handguards look like they provide alot of protection though.

Wow, then don't get them!

Not just ugly but very ugly...........eh?
Well maybe they would be more appealing to you if you added some pink tassels to them. :becky:
