hahaha annoying "vs" thread - ZX vs Rev

OK. Here's the deal.

I have an 03 Summit 700 that I'm planning on using as a ski lift. It is good, I like it. It will do it's job Just Fine.

I'm going to buy another sled, two is better than one, safety in numbers, etc etc etc.

So...I'd like a Rev chassis. I know that.

I'm scared of Ski-Doo 800s. Virtually ALL of the ads for them in Denver have "new motor in....." - I want reliability more than 15 more horsepower.

04 Summit Rev 600? One for sale locally, 144" track, hmmm?

Question is simple:

Is an 04 Rev 600 about equal to an 03 ZX/Summit 700?

Both have 144" tracks.

Is the Rev chassis "100cc" better than the ZX?

I rode the Summit yesterday; while not in bottomless powder, it put all of my "is it enough sled" fears to rest - it'll be FINE. It can easily get me to good stuff - yeah, a 250hp 163" monster would be BETTER, but the 144" 03 700 is certainly good enough.

Thoughts? It probably makes more sense to buy another 03 Summit 700, have twins, ride single to the skiing area, break in an "up" trail, park one, do laps - and if one breaks, we have another. Yay.

Lemmeknow, I know these "which is better" threads are stupid, but simply put, if I'm satisfied with an 03 700, would an 04 600 be comparable? Better? I know I don't love the ZX seating/riding position, but I can make it work - sitting uncomfortably is more comfortable than walking 3 miles uphill through 15" of snow.

Thanks!

Iain

800

Had an 02 Summit 700, thought it was great. Now have an 06 Rev 800. The difference is bigger than you think. The bottom end grunt of the 800 is VERY noticable. Do yourself a favor and ride a newer 800 before you get the second ZX 700, shoot lets make some turns soon and you can try mine out. All we need is snow!!

don't let the 800's scare you. All sleds have had their problems. I would look for a rev 800 151' for you to ride and your buddies can ride the ZX. Any sled can be unreliable any day so safety in numbers is the key.

Trust me, from experience, I started with 600's and never thought I would need more than that, but you'll get good at doubling up and there will be things you will want to get on top of to ski down. GO for the 800!!!

I bought an 02 HMX-800-151 new and put a few mods on it. The very best things I did was put a Boss Hi-rise flat top seat, 8" bar riser and Simmons skis on it. I went to an 04 REV 800 but kept the 02. I liked the 02 better for boondocking, the REV was a little better on a hill climb and much better on the trail. My REV is also 35# lighter and has RER.

I also ride with a guy that has an 06 REV 600-144 which was better at boondocking and trail riding but lacked the poop for hill climbing. He just went to an XP 800 but is keeping the 600.

There is not alot of difference between the stock 700 and 800, especially at altitude where you loose 30% power.

You need to spend more time on your 700 and find a way to ride a 600 and an 800 in deeep pow. The price difference between the 6/8 is not that much with more competition in the 8s.

Interesting. We'll see how it plays out; I've first got to decide how much to spend - the number is creeping up and I have to remember that I'm buying a SKI LIFT (and a second one, called the Insurance Policy). An 01-2-3 Summit 600 would be fine.

I've got fear of Skidoo 800s. I know all sleds can (and will) be unreliable, but the sheer number of 800s with "new motors" or "replaced under warranty" has got me scared. Combine that with what my SkiDoo informant tells me (longtime S-D mechanic), ehhhh, an 800 would have to be the RIGHT price. Dunno. Maybe I'm overplaying it, but when researching 700s, I found one or two which had blown up - vast majority were 4000+++ miles and still going strong.

Dunno. I guess I care _less_ since I'm buying a second sled - I trust the 700. Unfounded? Possibly, but it seems to be strong and reliable (at least I don't think the motor is going to pop).

Hrmph. From the sounds of it, the Rev chassis really is good.

There is a lot more competition in 800-land, which does seem to help pricing (and the loonies are coming out of the woodwork - I'm seeing 02-03 800s for $4300 - that seems REALLY high to me....).

asdasdasd.

Smitty - yup, let's. I don't want to screw up this purchase; I'm either going to buy a 98ish 670 and call it the "lifeboat," or try to buy The Sled. Confusing, but fun at the same time.

Thanks!!

If your gonna get a newer sled go with the 06... great pull the cord and go.

My friend still have a ZX that i ride with in the hills. My sled will do everything better than his. Dont be afraid to upgrade

lots of 800s out there

Just remember...in CO and especially on this site there is alot more talk about 800s just because lots more people have them then the 6's and 7's. I can say that my 700 did great, but I surely wouldn't go back and that is with little seat time on the rev. I don't know..maybe it is just a good fit for me. I will say my bud has a 670 with a 151 and it rips, felt like more power than my 700??? I wouldn't get a 600.....at 12K feet there isn't a whole lot of power there, especially if you're towing skiers up anything other than the groomers at VP
