Had to put down my 16yr old golden today

RIP:rose:
My Golden's only 16 months, I can't imagine what your going through:(:brokenheart: My heart goes out to you and your family.

Man that's tough:( Lost my 6yr old in "97" definitely the toughest time in my life. Now, the latest model is starting to get long in the tooth @ 10yrs but still going strong! Here he is running the place! Longest and most satisfying relationship I've been in!

Funny how pets become a big part of the family.

Just remember, all dogs go to heaven!

Feel for ya man!!

Man i can't imagine comin home, and one of my pups not meeting me at the door. It'll suck when that day comes, I don't admire you right now for sure. But atleast you gave your pal a long and good life. Not much more a dog could ask for.

Been through it many times. Give yourself and family a hug from your snowest family.

Remember all of the good times. Those buttsniffers do grow on you don't they. I would not be without one of those boneheads in my life.

If I could be as happy as my buddies, I would have life made.

Smile when you throw a ball, they will bring the smile back.

So sorry to hear about your pup. My eyes welled up reading all of the posts. I have two goldens 7 and 4. They are at my feet right now as I can take them to work with me. I would do anything for them.

My dad lost his golden to cancer a couple years ago and went into a deep depression. Finally talked him into getting another. No it's not the same dog, but a new dog does wonders for a broken heart.

Its tough....sad day indeed, specially for your young one. On the right in pic is the golden we had after I got her in a nasty divorce from some people that just happened to be getting there car fixed at my shop and continued to argue in front of me on who would get the dog. I offered as a non-interested party and they both agreed to let me take there dog. She was in my family for 13 years. We all still miss her.

Sorry for your loss. I am 15 years old and have a black lab that i have lived withmy whole life. She is a couple months older than me. She is starting to slow i am not looking for her to go.

So sorry to hear

It was the greatest act of love and kindness you could give. Our pasture is marked with many headstones of animals we were so blessed to share our lives with(dogs, cats, horses, pot belly pigs, some animals we didnt even know there names just dropped off in the country) they tell the story of my families lives together on this piece of property we shared for so many years. Our thoughts and prayers for you and your family untill you meet again on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

Snowlover

Painful time for you and your family Snowlover, bet you have a lot of good memories and pictures...we have 2 goldens and they are in almost every family picture we take, don't want to think about not having them around.

Himark...your dog on the left in that pic looks just like our younger male, great family dogs.

Had this sent to me. Sums it up for me.

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, 'I know why.'

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, 'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life - - like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?' The six-year-old continued, 'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.'
