thanx for the feedback. I was turned off by the optical insert stuff, and was under the impression that people make RX goggles. I ended up buying another product over the phone from a internet website, they too tricked me into thinking i was buying a RX goggle. Product shows up and there a pair of eyeglasses wedged in a standard goggle.

So i'm disappointed with the goggle industry using a 'talk-around' about RX goggles, since no one wants to make the product, just sell you 'their' goggles w/ a retarded/uncomfortable eyeglass insert that costed over $200.

I know that you can get goggles that the actual lens is prescription....I don't know who makes them but I have talked to people who have them. I'll talk to one gentlemen I know that makes actual prescription lenses and see if he can give me a contact for you.

I just did a search and found these guys:

http://www.rxskigoggles.com/

It looks like the actual lens is a prescription and not an insert.

I'll still try to get a hold of my guy and see what he says though.

I'm a little confused...

You thought it was funny that people didn't but they goggles because they weren't cool looking, but you bought them because the boondockers crew wears them?

I didn't say anywhere that I bought them because the Boondocker crew was wearing them. I had them before that happened. I just threw it out there that they are sponsored by Habervision now. I would like to see a "Boondocker" version with a nose piece. I'm not stuck on this "looking cool" concept. If you are, more power to you.

How do you feel you got tricked? You have two reps giving you information on an optical "insert" with links to a picture. I can understand if you don't want to go that direction, but nobody mislead you in this thread.

Hi Powderpatrol

I talked to my guy this morning and he doesn't know of a manufacturer that would make a full on lens to fit a sled goggle. The problem with this is the surface space of a lens this size would create a lot of distortion and most people's prescriptions vary from eye to eye and so getting the correct optics in the right space would be very hard.

He and I both had a closer look at that other link I gave you and those are inserts too from what we can tell.

If you do find a company that does this could you please let me know?

Thanks!

Take care

Fitting an Rx into a goggles does present some pretty tough problems. When you have glasses on the lenses is close to your eye, so it is pretty easy to center the Rx on your eye. For an Rx to work properly it needs to be centered on your eye. PD or pupil distance is taken anytime you have glasses made. This is the distance between your pupils, it will change from person to person. Not only do you need the distance between your eyes but you need the distance from your eyes out to the goggle surface.
When you take the optical insert to get fitted you really should take the goggle or goggles you will be using it with so the optometrist can take everything into account and make the lenses properly.

Depending on your RX, say if you have an astigmatism, then even rotating the lenses a few degrees (like a clock moves) or if your tilt the lenses face, it can make it so you don't see properly. There are the x, y and Z axis as well as camber adjustments that could change your Rx.

There are companies that make lenses with RX inserts built into the goggle but the problem with those is that if you damage the goggle or lenses, you are out all your money. With the HaberVision insert you can put them in almost any goggle and you have the option to switch them between different lenses for the light conditions.
