Guy and dog crossing country on his horse

So I noticed this guy Saturday evening just South of Lincoln didnt really think much. Then Sunday I see him 30 miles South and figured he must be going X/Country on this horse. Stopped and talked to the fellow and quite a story. Said he was up north to clean out his sisters house after she was killed and settle her affairs when his truck and trailer was stolen. He decided to just ride his horse back to New Mexico and take some time off to clear his head. He tents where ever he finds a nice spot to lay down in. He didnt ask for money but said he is not objectionable to taking a day or two job for walking around cash.... WOW, that would be an adventure.

You know we get out of HS, then straight to college, then right to the next step and wallaugh kids and before you know its all over. We really never take the time to smell the roses. Its just not really feasable but this guy is doing it!!

I know most of you reading this live life as its obvious we take the time to sled and enjoy the outdoors. I know its not possible BUT it sure would be fun to do what this guy is doing! My hats off to him.

Anyway here is his pic taken last Sunday 9-23 as he was South bound around the Beatrice Nebraska area. Watch for him and if you see him stop and visit...nice guy for sure! BTW, his dog rides on top his back pack...he just sat up for the picture.:camera:

That same guy was in my home town of Rock Rapids ia about 2 months ago. I saw him and then later talked to my brother who said he had talked to him. I will ask what his story was then.

That is pretty cool. I agree 100 percent about stopping to smell the roses. I would like to think I have had a fairly successful professional career, but my best memories are from things I have done that have nothing to do with work or the "real" world. I am all about the good ol fashion American work ethic, but life is way more than work sometimes.

That's awesome. I agree with Aebsledder, work ethic is good, but you must do something "different" once in a while. I was lucky enough to get to backpack the Continental Divide Trail through Colorado this summer, absolutely incredible, and not as crazy as it might sound. Many people get hooked on what they call "through hiking", which is basically long backpacking trips like the Appalaichin Trail, the Continental Divide Trail, or the Pacific Crest Trail, but hike the whole trail in one shot. Those that get hooked end up changing their lifestyle to fit through hiking, somewhat similar to how a lot of us let sledding dictate many of our life choices (where to live/work, etc.). Anyway, there is a lot to see/do in our country!

The true meaning of that simple statement "slow down and smell the roses" What an interesting way to clear your head. My hat is off to this guy for slowing down and giving himself time to reflect on the loss of his sister as well as his own life. Anybody know his name or where he started his trip from?

<O:p</O:pA death in the family or close friend for that matter changes our perspective on life. I had a similar thing happen to me this year with loosing a friend on a mountain bike ride this summer to a heart attack. 30 minutes into the ride the guy who was laughing and having a good time in the parking lot before the ride started was no longer with us. It changes you as a person.

<O:p</O:pMost people today are not self reliant enough to even attempt such a trip. I am sorry to say myself included. I am sure by the time he gets back home he will have enough interesting stories of his travels he could write a book not to mention a new perspective on his life.

<O:p</O:pI wish him safe travels and a safe return trip home.<O:p</O:p

That is awesome!!!!

Wish the mortgage company was understanding so a guy could take off like that.
