Group of Californians pushing for succession

They can't secede without amending the California constitution which is not really likely

What makes you think they wouldn't last? They contribute more to the federal government in taxes than they receive.

That statement is a perfect example of the saying "Statistics don't lie, but they can be manipulated"

The US government spends more than $367 billion on Cali roads per year.
That's approximately $9,500 per person.

The healthcare costs are even higher.

Just a couple examples of incomplete statistical information.

Yeah. And you say my statistics are misleading.

Your roads numbers are laughable, given that the total federal, state, and local spending on all infrastructure in the country was $416 billion in 2014.
https://www.cbo.gov/publication/52463
The total number for highways in the entire country was $165 billion.

In 2015, the federal government sent $375.8 billion to California.

http://www.lao.ca.gov/Publications/Report/3531/1

Given that, California receives $0.99 for every $1.00 it sends in in taxes.

I'm definitely in favor of California staying in the Union. The systems are nearly inextricably linked, and there would be costs on both sides if the relationship were broken.
However, being that nearly every mountain states takes much more in taxes than they send in, we might want to look to ourselves first, before complaining about how much money CA gets.

IDCatman3 saw the need to give me negative rating for this post.
How old are you... 4?
WTF kind of behavior is that from a MODERATOR?
Grow up!

Actually I'd say he called you out and provided real facts to back it up.
And all you got is a childish insult to throw back. Reminds me of someone else...

I voted that post unhelpful because nothing in it is accurate.

Is this still a thing? Complaining about rep. LOL

Reminds me of the rep battles from years ago.

I did like the "WTF kind of behavior is that from a MODERATOR" note. Reminds me of 2009. Oh the memories.

I voted that post unhelpful because nothing in it is accurate.

Next time just say "I must have hit it on my phone". LOL, everyone else does.

I honestly do not care about the rep thing, but I thought it was funny that a moderator would play the whole childish game.

FWIW, I appreciate his taking part in these discussions. It does keep things interesting around here.
I appreciate everyone's willingness to debate or argue or whatever you wanna call it!

You know that I posted this article, right?

Read what you posted:

No, the US government spends $368 billion on California TOTAL. Yes, I suppose I will admit that the total is ~$9500 per person.

Yeah, no, because that $358 billion includes those.

So yes, I will stand by that.

Didn't care enough to make a whole post about it even.

Now, I'd like to direct you to the federal spending per capita by state, and compare California to South Dakota here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feder...l_spending.2C_by_state.2C_federal_fiscal_2013

California $8,967
South Dakota $9,499

If I had an agenda, I could find and paste links to sources that support that agenda. The problem is we as readers need to remember that articles for the most part are opinion, not news.

Honestly I'm more interested in hearing what you think, not spend my evening sorting through articles that most often are not interesting enough to hold my attention.

Here's why I feel Cali would fall if it succeeded.
The hierarchy of this hypothetical "nation" would be so far left leaning that it's government and socialistic programs would collapse under it's own weight.

We all know though, that this is nothing more than boisterous talk.

Due to their impact on the electoral college I would love to see them leave. It would be a dream come true.

Cali is alot like MN.
We tend to paint the entire state with the same liberal brush, when in fact most of the state's residents outside of the metro areas are hard working conservatives with common sense values.

CA is a leader in dairy production, and I'm sure a little research would yeild a long list of how they are great contributors to our society and economy.
