Greenwater Elevations and other stupid questions

Thinking of checking out Greenwater for the first time on Sunday. At what elevation is 'most' of the riding? I see from the staging in Pyramid it's about 2700ft or so.

Hoping to ride Sunday and get about 4k where the snow level is 'supposed' to be sitting. A secondary question I guess would be what routes/forest rds/whatever would take me to higher elevations..

Is there a better staging area than Pyramid? Can you stage anywhere off FR70?

Thanks!

Just got back from there, checking the conditions as our club was supposed to do a ride to WJL on Saturday. The road to Pyramid snopark is icy all the way, with the snopark at the end of the pavement and a berm in place.

Wasn't riding but talked two a couple of guys who just got down and they said maybe 10" of new "mashed potato" snow at Goverment Meadows which is about 4900'. They also said it was pretty thin on the other side.

As far as staging off FS 70, pretty much follow the road up to G Meadows, lots of play areas on the other side if you know where to go.

Thanks for the info. I pretty much don't 'know where to go' as this will be my first time up there, but I probably can find something with a little help from my mapping software when I get home tonight.. Else just make it easy on me and send me a PM, I won't blow out the spot, promise! ;)

Ken - Is the ride on or not? Checked the Taneum today to see about meeting up from Cle Elum.....Could feel every rock on the trail....Need to put my spring ski's back on???:beer;

Bob, the ride is still on for Saturday morning, we just decided to change the location from Greenwater to Stampede. There are a few folks riding out of Easton today to do a check out ride for Saturday's ride.
