Was just on top of the Mesa and I thought I'd report on the snow. There was 6 to 8 inches on top at the visitors center and a little less down at the Lands End parking lot. Still snowing decent at noon. Less than I was hoping for, but it's a start :)

Excellent

Thanks for the info. Yep hoping for more, but hey, it's better than a poke in the eye. I've been glued to the weather and snotel today. Your pics are just what I was looking for. :beer;

Hey,

I'm moving to Grand Junction from Western Montana. I NEED to ride somewhere steep and deep!! Where can a guy ride in this area?

Steven

Where is everywhere else?? I have never been to CO!! I would like to find somewhere like Cooke City, MT, if that is possible.

Irwin is like Cooke City. BIG STEEP DEEP.

I'll second that!!!

www.sledcity.com is the Colorado Snowmobile Assoc. site and is a good place to start. Cook is not easilly duplicated here as some of our best hill climbs are now wilderness designated. However, Jones Pass get close as does Vail--unforunately both these have lots of stick riders to deal with.

Cottonwood Pass/Taylor Park towards Pearl Pass is steep but prone to slide.

But if deep powder works, then the Grand Mesa and the Flattops have tons of it and if you look real hard you can find a few steep hills to climb.

Junction is a sportsman's paradise--good choice!

Sorry Bob, but I do disagree with you. Grand Mesa has an area called "hidden valley" that only those who like steep will go play. You must side hill your way in, but once you get there, you won't find anything like it. The rest of the mesa is a winter wonderland with tons of boondocking and you will find very few tracks. It is one of our favorite places to ride! If you head south to wolf creek pass, it looks much like you are accustomed to as well. Just don't tell anyone!

Hidden Valley is really cool but it's no Cooke city. Irwin, along with some other areas around Crested Butte are bigger and better than Cooke, and the San Juans, Well they're just flat out monster climbs. Big Avy danger:eek:

Here's a pic of Happy Valley back side of Hidden Valley (feb 08)

Hidden valley???????????

Rode Grand Mesa last year for the first time out of Electric Mtn. Never heard about Hidden Valley. Anyone care to enlighten me as to how I find it? It would be appreciated. Plan on being out there a lot this year. Awesome place.

sledskiing, thanks for the link. BTW Coloradosledcity is newly updated this year and does offer links to all the clubs websites and their trail maps. Not total coverage but alot to look at.
