GPS-what to buy

retiredpop, which Topo package did you buy? I found the info on Garmin's website to be somewhat confusing.

I bought the Garmin Mapsource TOPO Canada package. Only thing I don't care about it is that it does not show all off road trails even if they are what I would call roads but maybe none of them do. They do show power lines however. It is very accurate as far as topographical information like lakes, streams and elevation.

Can any of you guys say for certain whether the Delorme Topo 7.0 software will work with a Garmin 60CSx? The Delorme rep I talked to immediately said it wouldn't so I suspect that is a pat answer. A review on amazon said 6.0 wouldn't work with the 60CSx, but no one has reviewed 7.0.

delorme just released there own GPS I don't think they have licensed software to anyone for use on the gps unit

Can't say about the other units, but my 60CSx came with Mapsource but it only had a very rudimentary map included that was marine-based, which was rather odd.

Four years now on a Garmin 276C with the topo map. Don't leave home without it.

You'll love the 530. color is much easier to read. Great battery life. And the finding people ability really eases the mind sometimes.

If you purchase the 530 hcx, is the Mapsource US topo software package also needed?

ya, just found that out

the basic map included in the unit didn't even have a paved 2 lane county road listed!

I am not impressed, 400 bux (roughly) should have better maps included.

now I need to buy a micro SD card and a good topo map

do you all just use US topo west??
