Ok we will start with the location.. central high school in rapid city,sd.. My aunt has worked there in the office for about 10 years.. up to last year it was the normal ol' high school.. Not sure the percentage of native americans that go there but its probably around 35%.. Last year a native american principal was hired.. He then inturned hired native americans for the top 3 positions inside of the high school... Last week he put in for an order for 500 ipod nano 2gig's.. and and assortment of 50 and 100 dallor gift certificates for stores around town.. When asked what these where all for.. He decided to institute a new program that awards native americans for showing up too class.. If they show up everyday for 2 weeks they get a certain prize!!.. now this wouldn't be a problem if it was for all students but its not.. ONLY FOR NATIVE AMERICAN students.. Remeber this is a public school that has a plethra of races that are enrolled there.. He has also booked several different native american comedy and history people to come to the school and talk to NATIVE AMERICAN students and them only..
After talking with her some of her co-workers about this.. the general agreement is that this is wrong.. obviosly.. however they all agreed not to say anything for fear for being called racist or disrimitor over native americans..
I told her that is BULLCHIT.. and needs to be brought to the attention of the school board and the community.. What do you guys/gals think???
