Note Its covered in dirt because I rode this weekend and yeah, it gets dirty traveling down the dirt/salt covered freeway. I was going to wash it on monday after riding this weekend but all the local car washes were closed because its so cold over here, it was 7 degrees on monday.

So I get out of my last class of the day (college student) and look at my cell phone, got a voice-mail, turns out to be from campus police saying my truck was involved in a hit and run. Truck had been parked since 9:30 in the morning when I got to school from work. It was 2:30 ish by now.

Turns out girl was parked next to me, angled parking at that, backed out, hit truck, got out of car looked at damage on her car and my truck and drove away. Luckily another girl watched it all happen and cared enough to file a police report. So the cops know who hit my truck and have all her info since to park on campus you have to buy a pass and register your car with the parking people.

Anyway the damage is minimal, and as you will note, the truck isn't exactly show quality. More principle than anything, why drive away? I'm sure her car is much worse off, her tail light was shattered all over the ground when I walked back to my truck.

Police are getting her insurance info and everything like that for me and I have the option of filing criminal charges. Not sure If I am going to, Advice is welcome as to how I should continue. I would rather not mess up someones insurance, but the fact she drove away is aggravating. In all honesty I probably wouldn't have noticed the damage until I went to go wash the truck, The damage itself hardly bothers me, I am fully aware the truck isn't nice but thats not the point. What would you do?

Too many people these days don't think they should be accountable for anything. I say throw the book at her.

Unless of course she is a hotty with a hot mom then negotiate a settlement with both of them at the same time :face-icon-small-win

bah, minor flesh wound!!!!!!!!!!!!!! find out who it is, and if she's hot, negotiate an "approriate" settlement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in all seriousness though, at least the damage is very minor, but it's still a pizz off that she just drove away knowing full well that she'd hit you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That sucks. Make her pay for it

I've been hit twice, like that. Once was my brother in law, never payed for it. SO I jsut beat the moneys worth out of him (that was a fun christmas)

Another time I was on vacation in yellowstone witht eh family and my box on my 2 week old truck had a huge dent in it when i woke up. Guy was from Cali, left his name and number and payed for the whole thing

JMHO but if it happened in a parking lot you probably can't press charges. If you can the most that could happen is she would get a ticket. Take the insurance check and get the truck fixed. That is what insurance is for To put something back to the way it was before damage was done to it by someone else. To me the wrong thing to do is turn it in and pocket the money. If it is abig enough thing to expect payment for it is a big enough thing to fix with the payment.

Officer who is in charge of my case told me Its my choice and to let them know whether I want to proceed with criminal charges or not. Either way he said they're going to need me to sign papers.

Spoken by a true pro!!

That get's my vote!!!:face-icon-small-win

If it were me and she had left a note or otherwise got ahold of me, she could have bought me a :beer; and alls well that ends well. I hate a liar, a cheat or a theif. The fact that she tought it would go away as she drove away, I would press the charges. If she would have have been honest to begin with...all too common these days.

I'm a bodyman, and here's what I would do. Go get a couple estimates from some bodyshops (they're free anyway). Then either get the money from her directly to fix it or get her insurance involved. Then if it were me I would put that money in my pocket and take a chunk of 2x4 and a hammer and knock the dent out from the backside.:face-icon-small-win

I really hate screwing people, but getting screwed like this is gay, i know what you mean, not a big deal on the damage, its not very big, get something on it so it dont rust, make her buy you a case of beer and your supplies. I just am to nice and hate to shaft people on insurance, cuz something petty like this ends up jacking there rates up and whatnot.

talk to the skank, see whats up.

had this happin to me when i got my new truck the kid was a member of a high class golf coures (black rock) that i work for. he hit it with the roll bar on his jack up side by side 4x4. put to big dents in the side of my 2 day old truck. witch this kid cold have bought 3 of the same truck and still got a pop at the end of the day. but no one saw it happin so i could not do any thing about it.

My rides have all been on the rally/work side of things so ive never been too worried about dents/dings either. In your case, I would prob settle for a serious apology from her and cops to give her a ticket or fine or something. No serious charges, but she shouldnt get off scott free.

nobody ever went wrong doing the right thing.

Lots of guys have been screwed over by hit and runs and the damage is usually a lot worse. Press the charges and she will think twice next time.

There has to be repercussions.

I think your poll is speaking to you!!!

(the internet poll, not the one in your pants)

hahaha....:beer;:D
your lucky the campus po-po even called you, ours would just brush it off...I'm thinking hit her with the book so she cleans up her driving skills, welcome to the real world! :D

I see this ALL the time as I run a bodyshop. I keep a personal record (mental) of how many peeps report this to cops. BELIEVE this or not because it was hard for me to believe the majority of peeps 8-outa-10 are reporting it to the person run into. It says alot for our society here. But what you arre missing here is YOU have no choice you have already contacted Police and is out of your hands. They will charge her and you will get your insurance $ for repair as long as she has current coverage. If she doesnt have good coverage you better hope she is decent looking so you can take it outa her azzzz
