Does anyone have a snow jack that I can use on Tuesday of next week the 30th. I live in Avon and the sled is stuck up on vail pass above black lakes.

Please send a PM if you can Loan one to me.

Thanks

Jake

A jack will work but not a shovel?

You'll crumple that Pro in a heartbeat with a jack from what I've seen

I'm riding VP Tuesday and you can borrow my jack to get unstuck. PM for my cellphone.

Milo,

The sled is in a ravine with 40 deg slopes on both sides. I am very concerned with Avy danger. When I was working on gigging it out before I felt like I was digging my grave so I just got out of there and planning to go back as Avy danger lowers. But even with lower avy danger I don't think completely digging the sled out is an option. Need to lift the rear and use ropes with 3:1 or 6:1 mechanical advantage to pull sled out. I think burial from Avy is highly likely with out great precautions.

I'll be there on Tuesday as well. I have a rope puller - basically a giant come-along that does not spool the rope, it pukes it out the backside - so, if you have 300' of rope, you can pull 300'. I use it to pull dead sleds up decks and things; it is pretty strong. I probably have 120' of rope. Post here if you want me to bring it - I know I have the puller, will have to check to see if I have the long piece of rope.

ya that puller thing sounds like it would work good. I am going to have to snowboard in to sled. You said its a giant come along, will it fit in my backpack? Snowmobile is in no sledding area above black lakes. There was no way out the top so had to go down.

Dig, trample, ride, dig, trample, ride. Shovel like a mofo for a day and you'll get out.
Chalk it up to experience.
It's like excersize. Most of all, don't forget to laugh at yourself or it will be a negative, sad time.

Yep, doesn't LOOK all that bad to me. I carry a full sized pastic scoop shovel on my Pro for just such occasions. Dig all the way around it, pack a road up the draw for 20-30 feet and ride it out. You should never need more than a shovel and some patience.

If you do not completely dig it out none of the tools you propose to use are going to help much. Once dug out pick a line and ride it:noidea:

The spot it is in is WAY steeper than the camera does justice - I really don't think "up" is an option, even with hero snow. He'd not be able to get moving.

I'm going to try to go look at it Monday, see if I have any bright ideas.

Maybe the track down will set up and you can get out.
Side hill that sucker up, that would be fun.
Good luck and be safe.

I'm not being a critic, I'm seriously trying to help....

It doesn't look like you have dug it out much. If you have others, have them pick up the back end and get it up on the snow. If it's facing uphill, roll it over facing downhill. If you left it overnight, that snow is more crusty the next day. Lot's of snow, but I've never been in a situation where I abandoned my sled. I suppose it is possible.

Hopefully you know your line down from there if that's the way you're going. You can get cliffed out over in that area real quickly.

I'd say trying to go up your old track might be the best.

No Monday morning quarterbacking from me...
That sucks, dude. I hope you get it out. I've had some stucks where I would have been screwed without other people helping me lift, and I've come across other riders that would have been effed if I hadn't helped them. You can run out of daylight real quick out there digging by yourself.

My offer to lend you my high jacker snowmobile jack is still good but unfortunately my sled is down an I need to drop it off at the dealership for maintenance on Tuesday instead of riding Vail Pass that day.

If anybody from 80921 is headed up your way, feel free to contact me so you can help hawktoy get unstuck by delivering my jack to him assuming he still needs or wants it.

Good luck!
