What drugs? I doubt it was just pot. I have had MANY MANY friends head down this road as well - but one thing you can put in the bank - it wasn't all attributable to smoking weed - it was the coke and crack they got into that put them on their paths.

Well this is a discussuion about weed so drugs was probably the wrong choice of words ! But its hard to argue with your point.

The legalization of Pot probably boils down to some graph someone in the Federal Government came up with detailing how much income/revenue they produce off of pot busts (who said 1 million per year?) with court costs, impounding of whatever, etc Versus How much they would make simply off of the taxes of Pot. Just a thought.

It's kind of legal in CO and other states. Get a doctor's excuse and you can legally grow up to 7 plants at a time in CO.

I don't by that argument at all. I would doubt if they even net zero... How much time is spent trying to fight all this? I doubt the percentage of people they bust to people they get money from is anywhere close to 30%......

M-A-R-I-J-U-A-N-A ......can you correctly spell or pronounce it, or have you smoked to much and fried your brain.

The definition of Marijuana:

Marijuana is a dry, shredded mix of flowers, stems, seeds and leaves of the hemp plant Cannabis sativa. People usually smoke it as a cigarette or in a pipe. It is the most commonly abused illegal drug in the United States.

Abusing marijuana can result in problems with memory, learning and social behavior. Longer term it can lead to problems such as lung cancer and increased risk of infections. It can interfere with family, school, work and other activities.

Scientific studies are underway to test the safety and usefulness of cannabis compounds for treating certain medical conditions. Currently, smoking marijuana is not recommended for the treatment of any disease or condition.

Compared to our drinks..

A 2001 report estimates that medium and high consumption of alcohol led to 75,754 deaths in the USA. Low consumption has some beneficial effects so a net 59,180 deaths were attributed to alcohol.[14]

Alcohol intoxication affects the brain, causing slurred speech, clumsiness, and delayed reflexes. The condition is called alcohol intoxication or drunkenness, and eventually subsides. Alcohol stimulates insulin production, which speeds up the glucose metabolism and can result in low blood sugar, causing irritability. In excess, the poisoning can be severe, even lethal. A blood-alcohol content of .45% represents the LD50, or the amount which would prove fatal in 50% of test subjects. This is about six times the level of intoxication (0.08%), but vomiting and/or unconsciousness are triggered much sooner in people with a low tolerance, among whom such high levels are rarely reached unless a large amount of alcohol is consumed very quickly.[12] However, chronic heavy drinkers' high tolerance may allow some of them to remain conscious at levels above .4%, despite the serious health dangers.

Chronic effects of alcohol consumption include effects of its metabolism in the liver, its effects on the brain, and effects of addiction (alcoholism). For example, cirrhosis is stereotypically found in heavy drinkers. The consumption of alcohol does not kill brain cells but rather damages dendrites, the branched ends of nerve cells that bring messages into the cell. Alcohol dilates the channels in the cellular structure that regulate the flow of calcium, causing excess calcium to flow into the cells and stimulating increased activity. This does not kill the whole cell, but causes a loss of the end segments, leading to the loss of incoming signals and therefore a change in brain function. Most of this damage is temporary, but the recovery process changes nerve-cell structure permanently.[15] Some forms of cancer have been linked to excessive consumption of alcohol. "3.6% of all cancer cases worldwide are related to alcohol drinking, resulting in 3.5% of all cancer deaths" (see alcohol and cancer for details).[16]

Alcohol is also a potentially addictive substance, with numerous health effects, and potentially lethal effects of withdrawal. Alcoholism has more and more serious effects on health than moderate drinking. Alcoholism is a major concern for public health; like other kinds of addiction, it is also viewed as a form of immorality. Propensity to alcoholism is believed to be partially genetic; individuals with such propensity may have a different biochemical response to alcohol, though this is disputed. Alcohol addiction can also lead to malnutrition because it can alter digestion and metabolism of most nutrients. Severe thiamine deficiency is common due to deficiency of folate, riboflavin, vitamin B6 and selenium. Muscle cramps, nausea, appetite loss, nerve disorders and depression are some common symptoms. It can also lead to osteoporosis and bone fractures due to vitamin D deficiency (vitamin D helps in calcium absorption).

How many people have died from weed? People make the argument that weed is so bad for you.... I would say, tell that to an alcoholic...

There has never been a documented case of lung cancer in a marijuana-only smoker, and recent studies find that marijuana use is not associated with any type of cancer. The same cannot be said for alcohol, which has been found to contribute to a variety of long-term negative health effects, including cancers and cirrhosis of the liver.

And if your smoking the stems and seeds your not doing it right :beer;

Legalize it, treat it like you do Alchol and be done with it.
I would rather have a stoner next door then a drunk.

I am reping the chit out of this thread !Amen !Anyone with slightest bit of common sense can see pot is and has been vilafied will far wosre substances are peddled by salesmaen for the pharmecutical companies yet you get can arrested for pot! SENSELESS ! I a country where tabbaco and alcohol are legal there is simply no rational argument against weed.Period! The only reason the gov. doesn't leagize it is that because in can bee grown almost anywhere. They have no hope of controlling it Obviously! Therefore creating an industry to combat it is the only way to generate revenue from it.

You said it, the government couldn't control it. If anyone could make booze that easily it would be outlawed as well.

Personally I think people caught smuggleing drugs or selling drugs should be shot.

Legalizing pot is _NOT_ the answer. We don't need a braindead society that's too lazy to fight when the time comes.

Dogmeat-If you are talking about the public and not the armed services, we are already there.....what about people that smuggle booze in and out of dry countys, should they be shot as well?

Ummm, it's a lot easier to make alcohol than it is to grow marijuana. Lots of people do it.

And generally speaking, if those who choose to smoke weed would do so in the privacy of their own home and not sell it, they would never need to worry about being arrested. It's the idiots who smoke in public, or drive while high, or start selling and importing it who get jail time. They draw the attention to themselves.

There is no profit in enforcing laws. No one is making money off marijuana arrests or seizures except the attorneys.

...but I'm no expert.
