thinking about buying an xp for next season. just wondering what the pros and cons of them are. 800 by the way.

08 xp

With some set up time this sled flat out rocks. I had all the belt and clutching issues in 08 but it was a first year sled. I think all of us 08 xp owners can be thankful that it wasn't like the rmk 900.

Can't wait to get my 2010!!!

I have one of each and they are great. You just need to get the clutch setup and then just take time to get the suspension dailed in. Very nice and the light weight feels very nice.

any motor issues, and i dont know a whole lot about them do they have dpm like the older doos

I have an 08 X 154 and it has been a huge PITA since i got it. I have dealt with nearly every problem heard of except motor issues, knock on wood. That being said i have also ridden every other comparable stock sled and i wouldnt trade my sled for any of them. Its taken a while and my clutching is still not perfect but the XP makes every other brand feel like my old 99 670.

I think dealer setup is key. My dealer did not even get the handlebars on straight! If you have a decent skidoo shop in your area, or you know how to wrench yourself, I would go xp all the way. If you want to pull the cord and never worry about tuning I would look elsewhere, but dont ride an Xp because you won't want to ride anything else. Just my humble opinion...

Good- great suspension/handling, amazing in deep snow, climbs great, feels like a dirt bike, great sidehiller/boondocker if you can ride the chassis.

Bad- kind of sucks on set up/hard pack snow, some peeps had belt probs, clutching, etc.

Ugly- fat girls with no clothing

My XP is by far the best stock sled that I have owned. It did take a while to get the clutches dialed in, but once that was figured out it has worked great. I have only blown one belt in two seasons, and my friend blew one the same day on his dragon. The sleds handle amazing in hills and suprisingly well down the trail. You will not be disappointed.

PS
I have one that is set up very well for sale in the swapmeet. Let me know if you are interested. I am trying to sell it before summer.

so do these have the dpm like the older ones. or do you have to jet. not really that big of a deal just wondering

yup, they still have the dpm. don't have to mess with much except the clickers. Iv got an 09 163, couple buds have an 08 154/146. They are all awesome sleds. Iv ridden an m8 and dragon 700, and Im glad I bought the xp:D:beer;

I'll be right there with ya Diggler getting 'em tuned in. We can help each other out. Pretty sure I'm going to be on a Summit XP 800 154" next year. Not taking a chance on a new RMK with all the bogging and burndown issues. M8's are sweet too but I like the ergonomics of the XP better. Plus they are great on gas and oil. At the end of the day in the Snowies I usually had less than 1/4 tank left, XP's had 1/4-3/8 tank left and Crago's Apex had about 3/8 tank left if I remember right. Not that much difference in fuel economy.

Alan's and Roy's XP ran great the whole time we were in the Snowies. Only issue was that once after Roy's motor got heat soaked the recoil didn't work. Let the motor cool off for 1/2 hour and it worked fine the rest of the trip. Nothing to worry about really. No problems with belts although I'm sure the clutching could still be improved on.

I would get an '09, seems to be less issues with them compared to the '08 model.

i was thinking the 09 to. are alan's and roys 09's. got a friend with an 08 and he has had good luck with it. do these have any motor issues like the older ones?

Alan's and Roy's are both '09 Summit 800 154" X package.

From what I've read some of the 08's left the factory with bulkheads that weren't drilled right for the motor mounts and there isn't any adjustment in the motor mounts unless you pull the motor and drill the mounts out so you can adjust them. Basically you either get a good one or you don't, it's just luck. That's the main thing that scares me about the '08 models. Sounds like your buddy has a good one. I guess if a guy brought a clutch alignment tool along with them and made sure it was good you wouldn't have anything to worry about as far as the clutch alignment. Some had problems with the '08 clutching components and setup too. The '09 setup is supposed to be alot better. Some '08 sleds had issues with the track rubbing on the tunnel too. I think the '09 track was redesigned a little bit too?

Here's some links for ya to read about the '09 updates.

Anybody else know, what other updates do the '09 models have compared to '08 models?

Only ever heard of a few '08 motors going down, a few more than there should be but not near as bad as the '07 models. Haven't hardly heard of any '09 800R motors burning down. Doo must have them figured out now.

Doo isn't changing much except for graphics for 2010 so you might as well save some cash and buy an '09 used or leftover. I think I would definitely get the 2nd year engine warranty just in case just for peace of mind. I've looked Alan's XP over like a hawk and these things are not the tin cans that some people make them out to be, the chassis seems plenty strong. They're a sweet sled. Light years ahead of our sleds. LOL

If you want to ride one come down to Bismarck this next weekend for our fun run and I will let you ride my 08. Oh and grand prize for the trip is lodging and sled rentals in the Big Horns.

I've got about 400+ miles on my '09 now and I love this sled! I did have a primary bushing that was too tight as well as a recoil problem, but both were known problems and were covered under warranty early in the season, so it wasn't too big of an issue. I've had zero issues since that first week.

Good: As a stock sled, this thing flat out rips
Bad: It's too bad I don't get to ride more!
Ugly: There is no ugly, this is the best looking sled out there, period!

If it was me, i would snow check a brand new one for 2010. The more years the more reliable in some cases. In 09 they fixed everything that went wrond in 08 ex. hand warmers, drive shaft, guages, etc. So i would think that all of the bugs in an 09 sled will be worked out by 2010. Even though no one wants o wait for november to get their new sled.
