Gonna be moving Colorado

Traditionally, economic changes nationally, dont effect Colorado at the same time. We usally see them 1-2 years after they have started. Those who have been here awhile understand what I am saying.

I am homegrown, cost of living means nothing to me becuse I have always been here.

The Job situation in Colorado will probably decline and run a little behind most other folks.

Hey, if you and your family can live your dreams.............do it

Face it, no matter where you are its going to be a rough couple of years ahead!

Vestes(sp) is building wind turbine manufacturing plants north of Brighton - might be worth looking into those for jobs if you have manufacturing exp.

There are some hotspots for home building - there have been 10-15 homes built south of ours since Jan 1, other places nearby are at a standstill or slowly crawling, I can't tell why some areas are moving and others aren't around here.

Prices on land are down a bit too, lots that were selling for $98k 3-4 years ago are now going for $80k around our place - we're still glad we bought and built when we did (moved in 3 years ago), I'm sure the construction loans are harder to come by right now....

A friend of mine has a house for sale around 6th and Garrison. If anyone is looking in that area shoot me a PM.

DenverR1, I'd like to inform you that the economy HAS smacked Denver bigtime. There may be jobs in some places but those companies are hiring at entry level, freezing bonus and raise payouts or making peeps take mandatory unpaid days off. Kaleb is correct about the construction industry (that includes Engineering, Land Surveying, Real Estate, Title Companies) and that in turn trickles down. I searched the entire states of Colorado, Wy,UT and NM for work in my field and found NOTHING. I finally found a job totally unrelated to my experience and education. It pays about 40k less than what I have been making in the past but it is better than a kick in the azz. I believe that you are in the Medical fields and that has been hanging on but you will see cutbacks soon. Peeps limited incomes in this poor economy is making paying medical bills a tad harder, they are having to make arrangements for "stays" or a lower monthly payment. Also if peeps are laid off, I would assume that their insurance has been canceled thus cutting back the payments from the Ins Companies. Colorado's Unemployment Insurance doesn't pay squat. The max weekly rate is 475 with a ONE TIME extra payment of $150. Thanks Obama, (you idiotic moron)! To qualify for that whopping 475/week you had to have earned at least 20/hr for at least 6 months. 475/week comes to a little under 12/hr. That won't even pay rent, let alone support a family.

Back to the topic though. Aurora isn't that nice of a place. Just watch the news every night. Something is always going down in that Suburb. Mule is right about the Spanish Speaking peeps there but the gang problem is prevalent. Just my 2 cents. there are nicer places mainly in the western part of the metro areas.

PJ-I'm pretty aware that Denver has been hit, especially since my wife is in real estate and was laid off since November and finally got a job. And what makes you think I'm in the medical field? I'm a police officer for pitty's sakes and we've been living off my income alone for a while now! Nationwide, Denver has not been hit as hard as other places.

And Aurora does have some very nice areas to live. I'm pretty current on the crime rates as to where and what because before my current position I was a gang officer in Denver.

How dare you speak negatively about Osamabama! He's going to save us, clear and simple. Look at all he's done for us already!!!

Ahh, so THAT's the Cops house that's getting TP'd later this summer...

Hey BCIL, how's the commute from your place with the cheap taxes? I didn't see it in anywhere in my home searches.

Colorado is a good move!

I have to agree with BCIL (Caleb) on the cost of living numbers. I moved here about a year ago with a promotion from my company. They happen to have (luckily for me) a very lucrative moving package that includes a cost of living adjustment. My adjustment moving here from Ft. Worth, TX was about 40% of my yearly income spread across 3 years in decreasing amounts per year. This is based off from national numbers that are calculated by people with way more time on their hands than I have. I moved from Central MN to Ft. Worth a year and a half prior to that and I had received a similar adjustment when moving there but was maybe 3% at best.

Also I agree with tracks on the fact that MN is very similar in the way that the economy behaves to CO as far as cost of living and wages, especially in the resort communities, and that if your looking to make a move and have the will to make it work, you can pull it off.

A lot depends on your field of expertise and what you expect for a standard of living. You also have an advantage in job and house hunting if you don't limit yourself to a certain local. Where there's a will there's a way. Almost always in a struggling economy there's certain small pockets of various industries that are thriving in it. You just need to find those pockets and prepare yourself to compete in them.

I'll even help you TP it if I've already moved out!

And you were thinking of moving away!!! Even though you are a douche I'm glad you decided not to leave.

It's an old house and I've been doing a ton of work to it. DJ (aka Rotax) lived there and just moved out. Once I get a new roof, gutters, paint, and other odds and ends done it will hit the market.
