Gonna be moving Colorado

Gonna try to move to Co from Indiana in the next few months to year been looking around for jobs and housing looks like auroa has some affordable housing but how is the town or area? I will probably be looking at a cdl driving job to get my foot in the door somewhere and go from there. Will also be looking to join snowmobile clubs and meet up with some riding partners just getting tired of trekking across the country to ride the mountains a couple of times a year and not too mention how beutifal the country is out there thanks for any info. Rick

Aurora, huh? I hope you speak spanish.... houses are cheap there for a reason.

I'm in Littleton, it's not too bad. Some nice places out here, and all my neighbors speak english natively.

Plenty of people ride out here, lots of places to ride within a few hours of town.

no speaka da spanish only english and that was the info i was looking for seemed a little strange on how cheap the housing was getting there we are going to make a trip out in the next few weeks to look around we may look at renting first to figure out where we like and just a general look around i have rode slo a couple of times really liked the terrain I typicaly ride tog or cooke planned on ridding RE this year when the group comes out unless i'm already living there also what about conifer ? saw some decent priced homes in the mountains of that area but is it too remote to comute to denver or surrounding for work? thanks again for the reply .Rick

i would suggest trying to stay in the metro areas as you get settled. I live in Lakewood which has good and bad parts. Aurora also has good and bad parts. The bad parts I would Def stay away from. Also living in Aurora adds at least 25 min commute to the mtns.

If you live in Conifer you are really limiting yourself. EX: If you find a job in Aurora you will have a hell of a commute. You will be closer to a few riding areas (Georgia, Cottonwood, St Elmo)

A family friend has class A CDL, tripples, tanker, hazmat endorced and has been uneployed since september. Driving jobs, acording to him, are scarce unless your willing to do it for $8 and hour or go over the road.

There's some nice areas in Aurora, having lived there before........well its a great place to be from, lets put it that way!

Good luck

gonna be moving colorado?

how in fawks sake are you going to move the whole state!?!?!?!?!!!!!

;)

:beer;

hola cumpa,

Cuando tu mueve a Colorado, tu neccicito estudiar espanol. Despues, yo tengo un trabajo para ti.

MUCHO Deniro senor. Solo neccicito abla espanol un poquito.
(ok, I speak spanish pretty darn well, but I've never had to write it)

Not many jobs out here, kinda dead. Even the Mexicans are getting laid off.
We went from 140 hentes to about 40 in the last few months. Scary ****.

Got a buddy trying to move here who is a seasoned driver for UPS, he already owns a house in Georgetown, and he can't justify moving here.

oh btw, the cost of living is 40% higher & wages are 30% lower than the midwest, great mix.

probably not !usually if you get it under the road you have done something wrong! also if the cost of living is 40% more and wages are 30% less why does every one stay living there?and thanks to mule and sledskiing for the area opinions.as for kinda dead out there we have counties here in Indiana with a 17% unemployment rate so we are not s!!!ing in tall cotton out here either.so i'm not gonna let the economy discourage me from moving to somewhwere i can do what i love which is sledding the mountains look forward to ridding with some of you one theses day's.

also if the cost of living is 40% more and wages are 30% less why does every one stay living there

I would think it would depend on your work. My sister moved from NYC to Colorado and did not take a pay cut. She lived the high life here. Although she got canned a few months ago and is now riding the unemployment train.

Coming from NYC to Colorado the pay sucks but the cost of living was MUCH more affordable which made it very doable for me.

I would have a tough time if the cost of living was more and wages were less. That is most likely very true if you live in the resort towns.

Do you have kids? Cuz that could be important.

I think Littleton is one of the best towns for all shapes and sizes. Blue and White Collar. It's not a so called "greenie" town like Boulder for example. Good access to everything and you a far enough from Denver to get away from the rif raf.

I do have a four yr old daughter so that would definately play into the factors of where we would live school ,child care etc .Obviously housing is definately more expensive what else are some the things that everyone seems to speak of as more expensive out there? All of this info is greatly appreciated i have been thinking about this move for the last couple of years and finally said you only get to live once so might as well go for it Thanks again Rick.

Check out the areas in between Colorado Springs and Denver. That way you have two job markets to tap into. House prices are dropping like crazy right now so if you can find good work affordable housing should not be too difficult. Maybe an extra hour to sledding but quality of life for your family will be much higher.

Larkspur/Monument/Black Forrest will give you that mountain feel without being too expensive or too remote. Plus the houses are not stacked on top of each other like most of the urban sprawl surrounding Denver.

Good luck!

Caleb (BCIL) where the heck you getting those stats from?

I moved out from Iowa about 6 years ago, best decision I've made! The Denver area has not been hit economy-wise as hard as many other places. There's affordable housing all over the place. And every time I look at the mountains from my master bedroom window I appreciate this state all over again!

I live in Thornton in a brand new development. As a matter of fact, my home will be going on the market in a week! Wifey says we need a horse property now. I can send you some info if you'd like and give you a great SNOWEST discount!

I agree with DenverR1...no dis-respect to anyone!

I moved from Minnesota a year ago, took a healthy pay RAISE, and don't see too many things being more expensive out here other than the dang DMV taking all my money for registering all the "toys" that I have:)

Either way, indysledhead you have 100% the right attitude when it comes to the move...you only live once and life is too dang short to not like where you live!!!!!!!!!!!

DenverR1 has it correct that when you see those mountains along the front range each and every morning (most being snow-capped:)) you will just have to appreciate this great state!!

Anyway, I live in Parker and there are several people off the forum that live there too...we usually all ride together:)

GOOD LUCK and JUST DO IT as Nike use to day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't say it's not worth doing!!
I wouldn't move back to WI for triple my pay.

As for the stats, mine were based on my experience, construction mgmt.
When I moved from WI I made over $30/hr as a regular foreman type worker, moving here I got cut to below $20 in denver with no benefits, and up in the mtns it wasn't much better. My girlfriend at the time saw a comparable drop.

Living in Golden compared to Madison surrounding areas the costs were much higher. Simple things like food are notably higher here than back there.
Up in clear creek real estate is cheaper, but the other costs are still higher. (property tax is lower here than in WI though, tax on my two places is a joke)

Keep in mind that my experience is based on Madison, not Gary Indiana or some other place that has been decimated by the economy, Madison is similar to boulder, relatively isolated from reality!!

I just talked to a guy at our house a few days ago who is a notch or two below me on the food chain back in southern WI/ North IL last week, he makes $9/hr more than I do, so in my industry it's still like that.

btw, teaching & nursing are also pretty comparable also, my wife makes 15-20k less than she would in the midwest.

As for you computer geek types go to hell if you make what you would have some other place!!:D

There's a reason why we're here though, it's REALLY expensive to build a 13k mountain right out of your door in the midwest, so when you do the math it all makes sense!!
If money was the most important thing in life, we probably wouldn't be snowmobilers, that about does in anybody's finances!!!!

Backcountryislife is a closet computer geek!!!

Oh, and did anyone notice how he talks about paycuts and then mentions his TWO homes? Then if you look down at his signature he lists a TURBO Arctic cat? Tough times.....

Is it your famous "cousin" sending you some money? Do I need to expand on this?

Actually by my count you have THREE places!!!! Do I need to expand on THIS?!!! Please oh please!!!

My house is in Lakewood. It sits on .49 of a acre of land, about 5 min from where I70/470 & 6th all intersect and 6 miles to the heart of Denver. The house is old but has a nice 2 car dettached garage, RV spot and plenty of space behind a fence (so nothing is visible from the street). Apparently I live right next (a few blocks away) to one of the best schools in the state (I have no kids).

3 beds, 2 baths, living room, family room, dining room, 3 fireplaces, new kitchen, new furnace, new flooring

I'm probably going to sell it and move into something smaller

Ohh and it will come with a brand new roof, ext paint and gutters thanks to the recent hail storm.

The garage comes equiped with a heater and digital scale to weigh your sled.

Make sure you put that on the MLS!!
You've got one of the best locations in the city as far as I'm concerned btw, cool spot.

Hey Cam, I didn't say I was broke (well, I am now) just that it's easy as pie to make good money back there.

oh and the 3rd place... taxes are REAALLY cheap on that one!!!
I tried listing it, mentioned the great location, the wonderful view, etc, but no takers at $275k! Guess I need to be in summit to get that kind of $$ for a shack huh??

oh, and Justin stopped subsidizing my snowmobiling when I took his last girlfriend!
