Going to Kauai

Not sure which one of the islands that is, but I'm heading out to Maui in two weeks. I would be curious as to some places to visit on that island as well.

We have been to Hawaii a few times, but this is our first visit to Kauai.

Do you guys have any suggestions on where to eat, what to see, what to do, et cetera?

Thanks - Kiliki :sun:

There's a lot of good places to eat, unfortunately I can't remember the names but I don't remember having a bad meal anywhere. It's pretty cool to take a drive up to the top of the mountain to a place called the grand canyon of the pacific. The rental car places won't want to know about it though. It's (that mountain) also the wettest spot on earth with 450ish inches of rain. The thing that was hard to get my head around was being able to choose the weather, if it's raining you drive to the other end of the island in 45 minutes and it's sunny. You can see the whole thing in a day but it's probably nicest in the Princeville/ Hanalei Bay area.

Thanks, we are staying on the east side of the island and plan on visiting all of the areas. We are goin to Waimea Canyon during our trip for sure. I have heard Hanalei is a real fun place:)

Here's a suggestion: a nice place to eat on the south side, I believe it's called the Beach House, , of course sits right on the beach, and great view of the sunset.

If you like to hike, you can spend a whole day at the Waimea Canyon.

Poipu beach is on the south side of the island, then you can hit the Beach House for dinner. Also want to see the spouting horn on the south side.

Just to the left of Poipu beach, easy walking distance, has some great body surfing waves.

There's also some cool waterfalls you can drive too, don't remember the name (wailua falls i believe), i think close to the airport. You can drive right up and see them. There is a walking path down to the falls about 20-40 yards before hand. Looks a little knarly, but there are ropes to assist walking down, really isn't that bad. Well worth the hike, as you see the falls from the bottom!

Watch out for the chickens!

CAptian Andy's cruise to Napali, or there is another company that goes over to Ninhue the forbidden island that is cool. also drive to Pohali state park awesome beach. on the far east side is a cave that you have to swim to called the Blue room, that is bad azz. Diving anywhere rocks. kipu falls has the best rope swings, water sking the wiama river is good as well. years ago there was a tubing bit where you tube down these old plantation canals and tunnels that was a blast. in Koloa town is a local fish market that has the best kaluia pork! also if you are a costo member there is a costo in Lihue that does save some cash.

also there is a book called the ultimate kauai guide book well worth the price, oh yeah it will reccomend a burger place called ono char burger skip that it sucks so bad. and Malasatas
(portugese donuts) for breakfast the best!

shipwreck beach for a cliff dive!

Great sushi/Asian place called Kintaro near Kapaa. Also good sushi at Tokyo Lobby in Lihue. Make sure to try the little dive of a noodle house called Hamura Saimin (where all the locals eat) in Lihue. Like somebody arleady said, the Waimea Canyon hike is nice. If you do Hanalei Bay, go see the resort/golf course at Princeville, it's a good place to have lunch.
Oh yeah, Ke'e beach is beautiful, and the hike from the beach up along the Napali coast is pretty incredible.

The comments are so great -Thank you! Thanks for the extra tips too, especially the trip to Niihau. I was wondering if it was worth the $$$.

I have the book. Actually, I have one for each island (all of them but Kauai are old editions and well used). :D

I have heard some stories about the chickens and as for sleeping in - ha ha ha. They are fours hours difference and I am way too excited to sleep anyways. I wake up when it is dark. My hubby tells me to go back to sleep all the time. :p

I guess I need more vacations.

There's a place on the west side to eat called Smith's Luau. They have an open bar for the first couple hours, and it's the best food I've ever ate. The show was awesome too. I think they ranked it the #1 Luau in all of Hawaii for a few years.

I highly recomend the chopper ride on that island. They take you down some pretty amazing canyons where they filmed Jurassic park. Another thing that was really fun was the whale watching tour. Again they had a open bar, and fed you lunch. It was a all day adventure, but we had a blast on that. Your going to the nicest island IMO!
