go pro or contour?

Hey everyone... I want to buy a video camera to mount on my excavator and some other equipment I run, to make short videos as well as to use when snowmobiling. I need something simple. Best Buy has the GP2 in stock about 4 miles from my house. The contour I would probably have to order. Are there other options out there? I am starting a big project Monday restoring a mile of river bank and wetlands and would love to video some of it. I am tempted to just grab a GP2 so I use it this week. Thoughts......

oh, I almost forget to tell you that there are three different kind of cameras (motorsports, outdoor, and surf)

Which of the 3, should I be looking at?

I have seen some of extras the Go Pro has. It does look pretty tempting. The Contour is smaller, and you can use and Android/iPhone to aim it before you go out.

Can you upload from the GP2, right to Youtube?

what kind of computer do you have? if you have a window 7 or mac computer, thats good.
I would go for motorsport camera

I would also vote for the go pro.... not only because I have one, but they also use them on many shows in extreme environments - Deadliest Catch, Mythbusters, Ice Road Truckers... etc... They have a wide field of view which helps, especially if you aren't aimed perfectly.

Wi-Fi BacPac

That's been my concern too. With the Contour, you use the app on an Android or IPhone and the screen on your device shows you where your aiming. With the GP2, you have to by an extra add on that has a small screen to use for aiming.

You can get the Wi-Fi- BacPac addon for the GP2 that appears to let you use your smartphone the same way. http://gopro.com/hd-hero-accessories/wi-fi-bacpac/

I'm torn between the GP2 and the Contour+...... the GP2 seems to be more widely known, but the Contour is smaller and seems to be just as easy, if not easier to use. I did just see on the GoPro site , that they are going to have some pretty cool features added in an update that is coming soon. Wifi play and upload to a Android/IPad tablets and smart phones is one feature I am looking forward to. Now I just have to decide......:face-icon-small-con

In regard to aiming... test out the cam around the house to get a sense for the range of vision and angle... When I mount mine on my helmet during the ride, I hold the helmet at close the the angle I hold my head, then direct the camera at about the angle that I generally look... not much too it.

Do you guys that have the GoPro mounted to your helmet feel that it is more susceptible to being knocked off buy branches and so on.?

Not possible with mine... but that's because I mounted mine UNDER my visor just above my goggles..... We do so much exploring in the trees that I would not trust anything to stay on top of my helmet, lol.

Can you post a pic of your set up? That would definitely solve the tree branch issue.....
