It sure is nice to see wth I am looking at now - and review things I've recorded.

I had the GoPro before this bacpac was released because I knew that the bacpac would be an option soon.

This GoPro vs Coutour is the same deals as Nikon vs Canon. Is one better than the other? I don't think so. Just go buy one and be creative! What makes the camera good is the photographer. :camera:

This is my first season doing some filming with anything more than a point and shoot camera that does video. We got a couple GoPros and a handheld panasonic camcorder. Very happy with both so far. Here's the two video's we've done: http://vimeo.com/20436275

The Yellowstone video has some bumper mount shots that are really fun. I'll do more of those in the future. Personally I feel the key to an enjoyable video is the standard camcorder view though. Point of view video gets really boring really quick for anybody but the guy who rode it. I do really like little snips of point of view footage mixed in with normal video. Riding side by side with your buddy and pointing the camera towards them came out pretty cool too. They need to ride pretty close becaues of the wide angle, and since you are not looking where you are going you have to make sure you're not going to hit a tree!

We use iMovie to edit. Works real well.

Making movies is pretty fun, watching them at home with the volume cranked through the stereo is freaking awesome.

Go Pro has great coustomere service.
I happened to snag a tree just right and un hooked my latch on the case and lost the latch.

Go Pro had absolutly no problem shiping me out a new one. and I had it before the next ride.

that always counts for something.

Whats the difference between these:

GoPro - HD Helmet HERO 5.0-Megapixel Digital Camera

GoPro HERO 960 High-Definition Helmet Camcorder

Is one just a camera and camcorder or is one just a camera?

The look the same but the price is a tad different

Go Pro HD will record in many different modes. including up to 1080P

Go Pro 960 has a few less features. Notably that it will only record as high as 960P. Not a big difference IMO.

I have the normal HD version and do most of my filming in 960P widescreen mode anyways.

Consider your normal riding lighting conditions when comparing the two. The GoPro is hella susceptible to blowout when riding in sunny conditions. You'll need a polarizer (check stuntcams.com) if you typically ride in sunny conditions. GoPro does great in overcast and snowing typical northwest style riding that I'm used to. With that said, I have both cameras and both have their strengths. I'd love to check out the new contour ROAM since it now has a comparable 170 degree wide angle. That was really the GoPro's main strength over the contour IMO.

Anyone know where to find a polarized lens cover for the Contour?

Sunny days really wash out the video.

get'em both.. then you can film your self filming the front of your sled while you ride.. it will be awesome!

I don't think I have ever seen a poll so evenly split in my life! It's clear both are a great product.:D

I've never tried the contour, but I definitely have no complaints with my Go Pro HD, easy to turn on and off and easy to start/stop recording. Pretty rare that I have to look at mine to know if it's recording or not - it beeps different times telling you it is turning on/off or recording/stopping.

There's no chance of it getting ripped off where I mount mine, tucked safely between my goggles and my visor out of harms way... I'd have to take a straight shot to the face to have my camera get hit.

great idea where to mount the thing man!

a buddy and i picked up the 960 and 1080 heros. the picture on these things ARE amazing. we have only had them out on the dirt bikes a cuple, but heres the input: so far few things we dont like would be,#1- the way the sun washes out everything. i dont know if its a backlite thing or what, but when you point this thing into bright light, the whole screen lights up. i might need a filter of some sort for those blu-bird days cuz thats really gunna suck to miss out on getting footage of those rare beautiful days.#2- the rattling noise while riding. we fixed that by putting the "drying strips" in the housing. that also helped with issue #3- fogging up after we rode for 2 hrs and climbed 2000 ft.. it was a hot muggy day,but still. #4- the fact that you cant see what you are recording, and cant tell what angle you are recording at. we got two hours of my buddies front wheel the first ride with it. and we fudged up a cuple times and had it set on pic mode, not vid. #5- not much editing possible with out a computer. we dont usually ride with a laptop to the cabin, so we would be waiting all weekend before we knew what we had. all in all im happy. i know that i will want more than one camera anyway,so the next one might be a different brand. we'll see. i know for sure the next 400 bucks i got to thro around is going into those skinz air frame boardz!!
thanks for the nice thread idea guys...any where we can put up some hd vids for all to check out??
