get a new 09 Summit X or keep my 06

I have to agree with whitefish. I have a 08 XP and a 04. If you compare the two apples to apples ( track length etc.) The XP will get the 04 Barely!! With that being said, the Xp is a blast to ride.

you people got to learn how to clutch an xp then cause when mine pulls rpm i still get beat by a xp with clutching done to it...:beer;

Depends on your riding style. If your into jumping and making the himark or riding the super deep are not your thing, keep the '06.
The XP (properly settup!!!) is in another league from the Rev chassis, no question about it. It just stays so level and travels so flat without trenching in the deep it blows my mind. But ONLY if it's settup to spin that track, if it has stock clutching it will not impress. 2 XP's side by side, stocker with a 154 spun the track at 35-38mph, reclutched 163 spins it 45-48....BIG difference and makes it a entirely different sled.
My Rev spinning the track close to 50 will not go as far in the deep as a good running XP.

exactly most people dont cluch there sleds so they make the xp look like it cant climb no better then a rev...

What do you mean clutching? I am a :confused: moron in the clutching department. What would be a clutching suggestion for a '04 summit X 800 if riding is at 2500' to 10K' ??

Xp Xp Xp Xp Xp

I owned a 07 XRS,,,, Loved it.... second best sled, stock, made.... I now have a 08 XP 163... Don't be affraid to go long.... Love it. Setup, for setup.... the XP will beat the REV's... Trash the 377 belts.... There are better ways to go..

Hopefully they have the 09's fixed my 08 xp with a 146 has gave me nothing but problems i have been through 15 belts and counting the new 377 doesnt make any difference changed the gearing it didnt make a difference changed clutching it didnt help either the hand warmers broke after 50 miles the gauge cluster went bad a 200 miles my pull rope broke at 100 miles if my sled gets a half tank or lower it will only run on the flat so the fuel pickup was changed it did make any difference my choke broke where it hooks into the carb and my drive shaft broke at about 700 miles my friend has a 154 and he has had virtually the same problems i have another firend with a 163 he hasnt had as many problems but this last weekend his motor crapped on him but these sleds are the funnest sleds i have ever rode but the biggest problem is after almost every ride i have to drive and hour and a half one way to the ski-doo dealer to get it fixed

im assuming 151 track from 2500 to bout 6000 id say the range i ride in and for me the stock 44 helix and 19/45 gearing works awesome.... but if you dont check your clutch to often i recomend opening it up and checking to make sure every thing is okay i had worn out rollers tell you what a huge difference in power after changing them for new ones... and assuming your 04 has high mileage cause of the year throw in new clutch springs just because there quite cheep...:beer;

Nah the mileage is about 2100 kms (1500miles+/-) . I'm dooin the rings, all top end gaskets, chain case seals & bearings and the hyfaxes. STock spring on both the primary & secondary?? Also planning on putting on a CPI super single & stinger and toss the MBRP in the bush;) Any other advice??:D:beer;

wow you got to go ride your sled man its still new..... i got 3800 miles around there orginal motor.... the springs that push the pucks out i got rid of and if you feel like spending a 100 bucks get thundershift big rollers i think there called i found on my other sled it pulls way harder through out the hole range...check your chain case dip stick for metal pieces cause mine around that mileage starting flaking if your an aggresive rider im still on my original though clean it off once in a while good to go.... a good combo for the 04 is keep the 19 gear and go to a 47 it really makes the sled pull harder in deep snow especially that will be my next up grade.... oh yea if you have 125 of compreshion or more on your sled i wouldnt even rebuild it leave the oil injection at the factory line it''ll use a lot of oil but its been proven they last way longer...

by the way watched a guy with a 06 with 2 new pipes his dealer let him try out and the single cpi actually made it run worst for the stock clutching in it then next day he put on some kinda twin pipes there testing out not sure who made them but it ran like a total bag skidoo has figured out there pipes real well so i wouldnt tamper with it.... but like i said clutching is a huge factor when you do mods like that...

Agree 100%.
I have a 840 rev and an xp with DJ's clutch kit will beat me. Track and getting mine tuned in will make a difference but still very impressive.

Someone on SW told me to make sure I rebuild the top end of my 06 at no more than 2200 miles due to locator ring pins breaking. I called my dealer and they said don't sweat it till 3000. I'll be damned 2300 mile and it was toast. :eek:

add a broken y pipe and cylinder to my list

Was in the same boat have an 05 and rode 1500 miles this year with mostly XP-s why cant Doo make a reliable sled ??? some were ok ,some not good at all
Lots of $ to spend to be behind a rope.The X-p works once you get it dialed in however ,but not much beter overall than a good Rev.
I rode the 09 Cat's within 5 ''real'' lbs of an Xp and it worked amazing picked up an 08 M-8 162 to replace the wife's sled (a spare) It works beter already than we all ever expected.
The 09 is 30 lbs liter and much better track.
My undies arent yellow if i am going to lay down that much $ I dont want a maybee winter's to short.As good as this 08 works Ill be lovin the 09 Cat.:)

STAY WITH THE 06!
everybody knows they were the best one ,lighten it up and the 09 wont touch it

Sorry to rain on the XP parade but the above quote is true. I ride with 6 XPs and they are some of the best tuners around. The XP will NOT climb in the powder with an 06 or an 07 with a powdermax track if both are set up properly. One of the guys has an 06 and and 08...the 08 rarely sees the outside of the trailer.

Don't believe all the BS out there...get the XP and don't look back. Absolutely the best year I have ever had on a sled.

So what your sayin is if there both set up the same, both with the powdermax track, the one that weighs 50lbs more, and has 10 less HP will win every time? Maybe I'll put a few centerblocks on the tunnel, and detune it a little, so I can go faster. You learn something new every day! :D

YEP. However the tracks, the secondary, the approach angle, the drivers, the motor mounts etc. are not the same. It's about more than horsepower. If I hadn't witnessed it with over 1000 miles of comparison riding this year I wouldn't believe it either. The XP is a fun sled to ride and handles awesome, I am just yet to see it get around in the powder as well. If and when it does I'll own one. :)

I was scuba diving in the carribean today and even at 100ft down it wasn't as deep as this thread. I have a perfect running 06 151 x model 800 with BJ's 150 hp kit and perfect clutching and my wife's stock 08 146 will go anywhere I go an maybe some places I can't. I'm picking up an 09 146 and fully expect to keep it mostly stock. Her 08 was very good out of the box and the 09 will only be better...... But I'm keeping the 06 as a loaner for freinds, I can't let go of a perfect sled.
