get a new 09 Summit X or keep my 06

I am thinking about getting a new 09 Summit, but I am not sure if they will be super solid. My 06 has 1600 miles on it, and I like to ride it. Should I get a new 09?

New XP??

I'm in the same boat. My 06 has less than 1400 miles and I just added another 2 year warranty for $500. I have rode both the 146" & 154" XP and would definetly get the 154". I think I'll ride my 06 X for 1 more year than look for a used low mile 09 XP Summit X 154" and save myself $2K over new. Just my .02 worth. :face-icon-small-coo

You asked so hear you go. '06 was a good year for the REV. Pre R motor issues and such. '08 is a great design and concept but a nightmare for belts and the remainder of the list. i have ridden with several XP's in all 3 tracks and they are over-rated in their overall performance. Yes they're light and look cool. But reliability and performance has not impressed. I ride a prettty much stock '04 and yes it will beat mine in most conditions. Barely! Compared to a '07 XRS, no clear winner. With that, I have ridden with some '06's that I feel are as good as the XP in terms of performance. So, what do you really gain in a new sled?

I wouldn't trade my 07' for an 08' or 09' right now. I think the XP is a great sled, but I've worked out any issues (mainly track and clutching) with mine and it will out climb the 6 XPs I ride with (as will the 06x I ride with). So unless you just want a lighter sled, I'd change the pistons in your 06' and keep it another year and by a 2010...Just my .02.:)

I have to agree with whitefish. I have a 08 XP and a 04. If you compare the two apples to apples ( track length etc.) The XP will get the 04 Barely!! With that being said, the Xp is a blast to ride.

Im in the same boat... love my 06. 2200miles of trouble-free riding.

I like how the XP handles, performs in powder and so on. I would really like the xp, but i dont want the problems with it. But if doooo has all the problems fixed for 09 mark me down for a 154X

I was looking to buy a new sled this fall. Well I found a great deal on an 08 Dragon 800 and bought it.

I love ski doo but hate the idea of spending 10k and then having to worry about the sled being reliable.

I have an 07 Summit 600 and might never sell that sled. Its a blast to ride and 1 pull starts.

I wont buy an XP until it comes with a EFI 800

IMO- Keep your 06, a great year for the rev 800's

06 extras

just some little stuff. boss seat, big wheel kit, shocks, pipe, can ceramic coating, running boards from Retodd, and if you want to shortin the life of the motor, nos. all these thing will make the sled user friendly. i plan on gettin some of the running boards from Retodd this summer. great snow elimination.! I love my 06.

I am also in the same boat. I have an 06 159' X that runs awesome. Just ordered a 09 154". Still can't decide if that is a good decicion or not. Don't want to give up a great running sled.....that had outclimbed many 08's.....for a sled that may give me problems. Oh well. guess I will just keep my fingers crossed and hope it works out. I am also a little worried about going to a shorter track...although I didn't want to go as long as a 163". Sure wish they still offered the 159"!!!

Depends on your riding style. If your into jumping and making the himark or riding the super deep are not your thing, keep the '06.
The XP (properly settup!!!) is in another league from the Rev chassis, no question about it. It just stays so level and travels so flat without trenching in the deep it blows my mind. But ONLY if it's settup to spin that track, if it has stock clutching it will not impress. 2 XP's side by side, stocker with a 154 spun the track at 35-38mph, reclutched 163 spins it 45-48....BIG difference and makes it a entirely different sled.
My Rev spinning the track close to 50 will not go as far in the deep as a good running XP.

The 06 has good pistons, just ride it. Its good for 3,000 miles.

I dunno that I would say your pistons are golden!! Depends on a lot of things... I changed mine before this last season (I ride an 05) purely as preventitive maint... A buddy of mine (on an 06) laughed at me for being anal and blew up his sled later in the season!! It doesn't cost that much and depending on how hard you ride could give you sled the facelift she's lookin for.... I did Kelsey's OEM replacement -especially if you might be going for a new sled in the next couple years keep your pistons 'stock' is the way to go.

I'm pretty much in the same boat you are with trying to decide to go new or not... I tihnk I decide to stick with my 05 and just give her some love. Suspension -Holtz made a HUGE difference, next sled I get will have aftermarket suspension from the get go!! Leightweight components... Making sure your motor is solid for another good year of riding (to me the peace of mind of a new top end was worth it, getting stuck in the mtns or having to COMPLETELY rebuild your sled SUCKS!)

I've owned pretty much every Rev, because I usually get a new one each year. It usually takes me about 4 months to get the thing running the way it's supposed to. Saying there all dialed in, and running the way there supposed to, the XP will stomp the 06 in deep powder and climbing. They do take a little TLC to get them that way. The 07 runs good, but the XP is by far the funnest sled of all of them. I'm keeping my 08 this year, because I've already addressed all the problems there fixing, and couldn't be happier with the way mine's running. I made it out about 30 times this year, and never had to be towed back, so there not that unreliable. We had 3 XP's in our group, all 163" and nobody ever came back on a rope. We have 1 guy in our group who didn't snocheck the XP, and is still riding his 07 159" 800r. His sled runs real good, and there were only a few places this year he couldn't make it where the XP would. If the 09's have all the bugs worked out, and all you have to do is clutch them to your specific's, you won't regret buying one.

(get a new 09 Summit X or keep my 06 )
Thats like asking ride to the top of the hill or stay here at the bottom?? Ive owned every year skidoo since 2000 and they just keep getting better...Buy a 09 you wont be dissapointed!!
