Gas station pet peev that pizz's me off!!

I know not everyone has a diesel, so they don't give it much thought (so I don't get TOO pissed), but it peeves me a little when there are only one or two pumps that have diesel, and guess what... they're both occupied with gassers, while there are other pumps unoccupied.:face-icon-small-dis

Dang all the stations around here no longer have the $75 limit.....
Not sure if it limits or not but I have put in right around $100 before....

Thankfully we have no pre-pay here unless it's late and you're in a bad part of town. I *HATE* pre-paying my fuel when I go to Idaho sledding. I'm not sure what the reasoning is for it down there, but it sure is strange.

The 100 dollar pump limit for credit cards is retarded. My diesel takes around 120 worth when coming off the pin. I usually either a) put 100 in and go, or b) fill up and pay inside.

On 95% of the stations around here, they took out the little thing in the handle that allows hands free fueling. Imagine standing outside when it's -30 with a hand on the gas pump putting in 120 dollars worth of fuel. What the **** are these companies thinking?

:confused:Another thing that gets me is when you fill up and pay at the pump and it asks you for your billing zip code. I have a work truck with a company credit card and it gets billed out of another state. It took about 10 calls to the office to get a hold of someone that knew which PO box the credit card bills came to and the zip code attached. Then I had to write it down so the next time it asked I'd remember. It's only a few pumps that do this but I've had it in every state I have to travel.

I just stick the filler cap between the handle and the lever. BTW, supposedly it's the law to not have those at self-serve stations in Canada.

Our Esso fleet cards have a user pin you have to input. I have to store mine in my cell phone because I can hardly remember my own birthday, let alone a 6 digit pin # I use once a month.

This happened yesterday...

Fuel light comes on. (my bad) Pull into a station that only has diesel at one pump. All pumps are empty. The two cars in front on me both pull into the pump that has diesel. bastards

Yep, that's like I said above, seems to never fail. That's one of the first things I told my daughter after I taught her to fill her car by herself -- never pull it in front of a diesel pump if you have a choice...

In my VW TDI, I got fuel on the big rig side once, because the diesel pumps on the other side were all out of order. Not only did it take me like 20 minutes to fill up because I was using a fire hose, but I had a pending charge for like $200 on my account for two days until the regular amount went through (like $40).

Anyone had the overcharge happen on a pre-pay!

Fuggin Shell is horrible at this. I put in $20 in fuel once (had a little car with a small tank so $20 was the norm to fill it up) and them fuggers charged me $20 which was fine but also $75 extra till it cleared! WTF is that! Had that chit happen at bennigans once as well. they charged an extra $50 and the worst part is it was when I was like 18 they did it and I had enough to pay for the dinner and about $20 extra bucks in there. I got the overdraft because of it. I flew off the handle on them dinks.

You used a debit card didn't ya......

Debit works differently than credit.

When you are at the pump, the pump point of sale device calls up and makes sure you have $75 in your account, and then "reserves" that money. That is called a debit preauthorization. Since the pump does not know exactly what the final amount will be until you stop the pump, $75 is "reserved". Then when the actual amount comes back to your financial institution, the transaction is matched up with the preauthorization, then the $75 reappears back in your account.

This happens at hotels, gas pumps, restaurants, and more places every day.

Get a credit card, and pay off the balance every month to avoid this.

Wyoming must be behind times once again. Everywhere I have filled up the pump does shut off at $75 if you use the CC at the pump. If you pick "pay inside" it'll run till you shut it off. Cost me $199.65 today - just glad I didn't fill my auxilliary tank all the way! $3.36/gal today.

Your not behind the times.

The only time the pump shuts off at $50 Visa / $75 Mastercard is when you "pay at the pump"

Visa and Mastercard can override to allow you to pump more. Some CC's are set up this way, others are not.....

Make sure the car at the diesel pump isn't a diesel before you get ticked off.. Ive had people mad at me until they realized a TDI is a diesel.. I hate prepay, basically because I pay cash for everything.. I had to fill up this morning and stopped at a place I don't normally stop and it was prepay.. Their lot was slushy and not plowed and Im on crutches.. So basically I have to walk 40 yards in slushy snow and have them hold a a credit card so I can go back to my truck, fill it up and then back to the station to pay cash.. Kinda pissed me off..

Oh you hit a good one this time! DRIVES ME NUTS!!!!! I’m a high value customer and for that

- Get to park furthest away (trucks and vans on the outside lane)
- Put up with their crappy machines not able to read my credit/debit card after I’ve tried 14 different ways to swipe.
- I don’t know how much gas I’m going to buy! I want to fill four sleds, a truck and six jerry cans (with premium no less)
- Inevitably the pre authorized always clicks off once I’ve mastered the climb up a soaking wet deck , have my gas cap in my teeth, used my leather man to unzip my frozen cover.
- I have to park my truck up against the pump and crawl out the passenger side in order to get your short hose to reach the far sled!
- Of course I don’t mind standing in line all three times to get my $150 worth of gas.
- I quite enjoy another transaction to buy a stale sandwich and cold coffee!

I know you don’t make the policy and you’re sick of hearing everyone complain to you about this but maybe you could pass the message onto your boss that if he wants to open a gas station at the gateway to holiday land (Hope BC) where everyone is coming in with a motor home, boat, sled etc. he could consider his customers!

This is just another case of the hard working Joe getting penalized cause some crack head drove off with $5.00 worth of fuel once.

My $ 0.02

K.

I buy gas for a company outfit on a Mastercard. I was told by several differant stations when I complained about the 50 dollar limit that the station sets the limit. I usually buy at several differant stations to spread the business out to our customers. I usually buy about 120 dollars each time a couple times a week. I could only talk 1 station into changing their limit to 150. Guess what they get all my gas business now. As far as going to the deisel pump to get gas. Live with it boys. The gas drivers have just as much right to use that pump as you. I usually won't go to that pump cause it is always greasy all over and spilled diesel all over the ground. But if the rest of the pumps are being used I will go to the deisel-gas pump.
