FYI someone plowed Rt 35 from Nobletts parking lot up toward Wolf Creek

Was out riding yesterday and to our huge surprise when we got back to the mill hollow / Rt 35 jnc. Some A-HOLE PLOWED the trail / Rt 35! Yeah... Both lanes too... was Interesting getting back to the Nobletts parking lot with the road plowed. I can't believe the state would have done this. I'm thinking it was just someone with a plow who wanted to keep using the road to get back and forth over the pass. The sign at Nobletts clearly tells folks the road is CLOSED, and something to the extent only open to winter sports activities. Why didn't the state close and lock the gates to the road once there was enough snow to sled on it? I know the Christmas tree hunters have been driving past the gate, but plowing it!! We sleders are a little screwed now IMO. I can just see this Saturdays parking situation. Very few spots to park and turn around if you now decide to drive up to the mill hollow turn off. Or park at Nobletts and try to ride the edge of the plowed rode for 2-3 miles to mill hollow. Hope this storm lays down enough snow to cover the plowed road back up. (I live in Kamas and all rain so far from this storm down here, so not feeling hopeful the plowed road will fill back in) If it doesn't get covered with fresh snow the single track trail along the side if the road is gonna get really really mogeled out fast.

If anyone knows someone at the State that could go shut and lock the gates on both ends of Rt 35 that would be great.

Rant over...

Hmmm this must be the states solution to the grooming issue this year. I know that this route is extremely political it may have something to do with that. Some big wig in the capitol has a summer/weekend property in the Tabiona area. With that said there should be 5-6 inches on the road again by now.

Too funny... I hope the road gets enough snow to cover it back up by Sat or there's gonna be some upset sleders out there. 37 degrees here in Kamas and 0 snow from this storm. Hope Nobletts is high enough in elevation to have gotten snow.

Some body put up a sign right before Kamas that says there is no snow at the Nobletts parking area and tell them to go somewhere else. :)

Poor mans stick welder.
Two 12 volt batteries cc amps 800 or more, jumper cables and rod.
Works on frames, spring mounts and 1/4" stuff on jeeps. Those gates are thick and full of paint.

Gate?

Anyone know if the gate is closed? If they close the gate and we get some snow they can begin grooming this portion of the system.

I spoke with a Utah State plow driver today in the Noblets parking lot. He said that it is the folks from Tabiona that are pushing the issue on keeping the road open. He said he turns around at the parking lot and its some other state plow that comes from the other side. Just fyi!

Sounds like the sledding clubs need to file a lawsuit against that DOT Region's office for violating the roadway provisions for RT35.

WOW who has time to fight this bull crap....

Yesterday I spoke with the state park guys at Nobletts about the road being plowed and they felt the same way we do but said they have no authority on this... It's purely UDOT. They also felt it was coming from the east side. By the way the road does not have a bunch of snow on it. It's marginal. Heard my ski runners scraping along for most of the Rt35 part of our ride from where it was plowed 4 or 5 days ago. If it gets plowed again and the groomer can't get out the trails are gonna get real bad. They suck right now and are getting worse. From what the parks guys told me they can't groom if the road keeps getting plowed like this. If anyone knows someone with UDOT that might have some influence on this please see what can be done to close the gates ASAP. We get a stretch of warmer sunny weather and what little snows left on the road at the bottom section may be gone pretty quick.

Most effective thing to do is get in your state representatives ear. UDOT doesn't listen to anybody but its own boss the governor or state reps. If you try to go through the chain of command it's a bureaucratic nightmare. Tell the state parks we will stop paying our fee if they "say" they have no control. There is no reason to be plowing that road after dec15bwhen grooming should start. What are we paying for here anyway.

But for those that want to get it off your chest and leave a friendly reminder that its winter and the road is closed contact Paul Baum. 435-848-5665, he is in charge of maintenance on the Tabiona side. Or if he tells you to take a hike you can contact the region director Terri Newell 801-227-8000. They love to hear what the public think.

Thanks for the phone numbers... We all need to speak up!! Just got back from riding today and the gate is still open at Nobletts and the mill hollow trail is really really bad. Here's a photo I took of the sign next to the open gate where UDOT allegedly plowed the road several days back. What does UDOT not understand?? Right...

who controls the gate at Nobletts ?.....if it was locked, no auto traffic, the plowing would stop ?...need sno-clubs to get involved...individuals can't do it...need lots of complaints quick, or we'll be stuck forever...i'm sure the east side is pushing this, they've complained for years, they may be pressing the issure to see how much push back they get...no resistence from sledders, it will become the way it stays....:face-icon-small-fro

Hats off to the whoever (wink wink) pushed a huge pile of snow (about 6 feet tall) from one side to the other side of Rt 35 just to the East of the Mill Hollow turn off. Anyone looking to cross over Wolf Creek pass in anything other then a snowmobile or in something meant for "Winter Recreation" as the sign in the picture above states, will be disappointed unless they bring about 10 to 12 people with shovels and a days worth of time to move the pile. Very nice work :-)

By the way, as of yesterday the Mill Hollow trail had been groomed, and the Rt 35 road is hanging tough with snow coverage despite UDOTs efforts to plow it even though the UDOTs own sign above tells us it's closed to "Winter Recreation Access Only". My back is thankful...

Plowed roads

This may need to go to a different thread But, I saw on the television news this morning that UDOT is looking at plowing more mountain pass roads including Gaurdsmans Pass from Big Cottonwood to Park City. And other roads as well. This looks like it may be a growing trend with Udot.

What channel was that on? I can't find anything on it. We need to fight this or many areas could be gone if they do this.
