Anybody mod the stock tunnel for a more deep snow appeal?

I'm tired of getting stuck due to the extended running boards holding the sled up in the deep snow. If you look at ALL the other mountain sleds by BRP, Poo, Cat, etc, their tunnels are all very slender aft of the drop down bracket, in comparison. New tunnels are outrageous (yeah, I'm cheap...three daughters will do that to ya!), but modifying my stock one is doable.

Thanks!!!

Here is mine

THAT'S what I was looking for.......

Pardon my metalurgy ignorance....any special concerns with the mod, or just cut and re-weld the side bar of the foot board? Seems like a pretty simple task, shouldn't take too much, no?

there are new rear foot holds comming for yamaha as accessory item. should stiffen the rear of the tunnel so you can rework the tunnel end. ski

Heres mine it works much better cant say it is all the tunnel cuz did the skid and track at the same time but it couldnt hurt. I think the combo of crappy track heavy skid and full length boards compund each other.

That's exactly the project I'm working on right now and the conclusion I've come to is I'm going to build a new tunnel. The aft section of the stock tunnel sucks but so does not having heated boards and the holes in the boards are too small. Anyways after staring at the tunnel for a few days I've pretty well decided it has to go.

heres the one I built beginning of last season...was a bit of work but I change the entire tail section..longer for the 162 plus a 4 inch kick up. Held up fine all year long.

wow back from the dead! guess i will have to finish mine. mods worked good last year but running boards still hold snow so I had this idea. Took the plasma cutter out and cut the running boards off now I have a fabcraft tunnel that is trashed except for the running boards. Should turn out pretty clean just hate smashing all those buck rivets!

I'm redoing my entire tunnel as well. I figured I'd build my own since nothing else will probably hold up. The new sides/running board are 5052 .080, the new inside plates are .125, I have 2 heavy doo 440 braces on each inside(4 total), and a huge AC snopro brace on each outside along with a redone phazer bumper. I also had some plates made to block off the holes in the footwell.

I hope to get started tommorow on mine. Spent most of yesterday making a new die for my brake to do that large radius bend on the side of the tunnel.
