guys i posted this on TY as well, thought some of you may want to see it here.

didnt know how long it was going to be for the new tanks and options for extra fuel hauling so, decided to try out my own idea. relativley cost effective too.

you'll need a skidoo jerry can p/n 861-794-000 (80.00 list from doo, comes with all mounts and strap), yamaha exhaust turn out pn sma-8gl14-00-00 33.95 from yamaha, and 03-05 mountain cat tunnel pad p/n 2606-134 (20.00 from arctic cat, thanks darko). and 5 yamaha rivets p/n 90267-47195 (best rivets in the world) approx .50 each.

i removed the tail lamp harness cover, installed the self adhesive pad on the tunnel top, placed can on pad, fit the exhaust turn out to avoid fire hazzards (have to remove the heat/trim cover at the rear of the sled). riveted the turn out in place, riveted the short strap brackets to the tunnel, strapped the can in place. it appears rock solid, no movement, looks like a factory add on accy. no fabbing, everything available over the counter for about 135.00.

only draw back is you lose the option for a rack or a bag for storage back there. i carry a back pack so i dont use the rear bags. here's some pics what do you think? ski

Good idea. Have you been out riding with it yet to see if there is any heat issues? I tried ordering a turnout but my dealer said Yamaha discontinued them due to fire hazard.......

Yamaha also offers a tip for the stock exhaust that turns it 90 deg. Haul a 5 gallon that way. Woot woot

darko yamaha makes a different turn out than the one i have listed? the doo can will hold just over 3 gallons (u.s), that would give the nytros close to 11 gallons total with this set up.

prarie dog, i hope your dealer is wrong on the exhaust turn outs, i still need one more for my sled. going to the dealer today to order another one. ski

My dealer said the same thing....no longer available. Have to fab one up. I just finished fabbing up a complete new tail and let me tell ya the stock tail isnt built very heavy.....I hope it can withstand the bumps and the extra weight.....I'd be taking it easy.

thanks for the heads up on the turnouts guys! i was short one for my sled. we ordered the wife's exhaust turn out 2 weeks ago and never thought about getting mine till i tried this gas tank carrying mod.

i called a trusted yamaha dealer and he did verify they are temporarily unavailable and he was out of stock so, i let my fingers do the walking and found another dealer with one still on the shelf. ordered her up.

i have no idea why they would say there is a fire hazard with these turnouts unless it has something to do with the angle and the predrilled holes in the turnout combined with the use of saddle bags or something.

i only used one of the holes and turned the pipe slightly upward to get the exhaust away from the fuel can. it is so far away from touching anything, i cant see a fire issue at all for the turn out alone. not sure what is going on with the availability. ski

chatted with my dealer today about the same thing & he says the cancellation of the tips is due to melting something i guess......... jerrycans, pantlegs, etc. who knows? but hoping to find one sitting around as well.

That would work with the stock tunnel but maybe not with an aftermarket tunnel..I bought a tank bag that will hold 2 gallons....also We are going to dump the exhaust into the tunnel so I can put a gas rack RIGHT behind the seat maybe carry another 3??? Didn't think I would need this but after riding the turbo I can see extra gas is a MUST......just for the fun factor......02

I bought the trail tank and plan to carry a 5 gal with the tunnel dump. Was hearing that there was performance issues with the tunnel dump though.
Does it eliminate the exhaust and bolt straight to the turbo?
