FUEL MILEAGE

The test pipe was to replace the plugged catalytic convertor on late 70's and early 80's gas motors.

The idea was to replace the convertor with this pipe just to see if that fixed the problem, and then you would know bofore laying out big bucks for a new unit. Trouble is, no-one replaced the unit after that.

Once they were ilegal to sell, you then had to go into a custom pipe benders shop and tell him that you want a pc of pipe about yeah long and with some ends put on it. You don't need to tell him any more, and he doesn't need to ask. But he knows the measurements you need.... :face-icon-small-ton

Not overly concerned about being legal, but I wander how they git around selling it? Idea is it's just for pulling trucks?

On my trip to Cooke after Christmas my 07.5 Chevy LMM got 7.3 to 7.9 hand calculated headed out pulling a 4 place enclosed with the cruise set at 82.

The road home was adventure with sub-zero temps and the last 280 miles below 55 mph and the computer showing 11.8 mpg for that section.

The whole trip I averaged 8.1 mpg.

Fuel mileage is what you make it. The slower you drive the better your milage will be.

That is one of the most honest diesel fuel mileage posts I have read. I love diesels, and am all about tuning them. But most people claim some of the biggest BS on fuel mileage. My brother is the perfect example. He has an 08 Crew 4x4 LMM and he claims 16 pulling a open car hauler loaded to 8000lbs. Truck is bone stock. Funny thing is when I check his DIC it shows 10mpg. I had an 08 6.4L powerstroke and I would average about 8.5mpg pulling my 7x21 ft Vnose trailer. Then I put a spartan tuner on it and it went to 10.5-11mpg. I pulled the same trailer with my buddies 2010 F150 crew cab 4x4 and we got about 9-9.5mpg pulling it to the snowies.

This past weekend I pulled my 11ft clamshell with my Pro, and wifes summit to UP. We got 9-11mpg. I couldnt believe how pathetic that was. 2010 F150 FX4 crew cab.

i got an 07 LBZ and with 2 sleds on the deck i get mid 14-15ish to 17 if i stay 65 and under.............oh and manage to keep right foot off the floor board(which i am finding easier to do). thats all hand calc too. thats all stock except for the PVC reroute, not that thats a power mod, but hey

I have a 09 F350 i have done up. It has Spartan tunner, 5"straight pipe back and S&B Intake and i am getting 23MPG at 115-120KMH before i was getting 12MPG so this mod stuff will pay for its self!!!!

Before you go ripping your DPF out you need to make sure your dealer is MOD friendly savvy??? The GM warranty rep for Alaska will deny warranty if the tires are 2 sizes bigger than stock, has gauges, def. if it has a known tuner, DPF is missing, Cat is missing, etc etc. Remember that Gm will check how many times the tune has been changed on the LBZ & up trucks & compare it with there updates. If the numbers don't match... Warranty is gone on the whole truck.

With that said I went balls out on my truck, Efi live, twin turbos, 60% over injectors, fuel pump mods, bigger exhaust manifolds, full trans build with billet input & output shafts, the list goes on & on. What kind of mileage does it get? Who the hell knows? I built it to haul butt & pull anything I want. I can't keep my foot out of it enough to ever check it:face-icon-small-hap.

Yes getting rid of the DPF will help fuel economy.

duramaxdiesels & thedieselplace are the two sites that I have learned the most from. Just start reading, tons of good info. Do some searching on fuel economy lots of ideas that work.

I have an 01 Dodge 2500 and an 06 3500, both Cummins. Weight seems to matter very little, but the wind resistance put up by the trailer is everything.

Towing, the 01 can run 70 to 82 mph @ 11.7 to 12 mpg. Trailer empty weight 5,000 lbs. Loaded trailer comes in at 19,000 to 23,000 lbs for a total combination weight of 26,000 to 30,000 lbs. With this weight, mileage drops only .2 to .5 mpg. This is my average over the last 260,000 miles.

The 06 is another story. I have only run it empty truck or fully loaded truck, trailer plus cabover camper. If I baby it, 60 to 65 mph, empty mileage is approx 17 mpg. Loaded total weight for truck trailer and camper, 36,000 lbs, mpg 8.4 to 9.8 depending on terrain. If I cannot improve this, the 06 3500 will be gone.

Yes, these figures are all hand calc. Both trucks are 4x4 and 6 speed manual. Believe it or don't, these are the numbers.

Yes that is for sure!!!!! My dealer in town is the worst for mods, but 30mins drive and there is a dealer that is all for modding if it is for fuel economy reasons. Dealer in town wouldn't even fix my back up camera cause i had exhaust on and that. So yes make sure dealer is on board with that kind of stuff.
