Fuel mileage on duramax with sled deck?

I have a 2006 Duramax and I am trying to figure out what it will cost to drive out to Cooke City with it, with my sled deck. Does anyone have any idea what kind of mileage I can expect to get with it with 2 sleds on the deck and driving 80mph. Thanks

Don't expect very good milage. I had an 04 d-max and a 08. Doing 80 you might get 10 mpg. There is a lot of wind resistance with two sleds sticking up in the air. I thought the milage would be better, but it ended up being only a couple mpg's better than pulling an enclosed.

Wow that's surprising. Thanks for that information. I figured you could at least get 12-13. How does the 04 do vs 08 duramax? I can 10 with my f150 pulling a clamshell at 80

The doing 80 part is what will kill you on milage. If you backed down to 72 or so, you could probably get 12. Seems like everytime I go out west there is a 25 mph head wind to deal with which doesn't help. I'm sure someone will come on here claiming to get 16mpg with a deck on. That has not been my experince or several others I have talked to.

Thanks. That is kind of what I expected to hear. I have an enclosed 4 place and I get about 9 with that. Thanks for the info.

ive got an 05 with 265s, kodiak mp, and mbrp 4" running from Hot Springs to Lead SoDak(200 miles roundtrip) running anywhere from 45 through the national park to 70 i usually get 13-14. If i get a head wind it can cut the mileage down to 9ish. Thats with 2 151 summits.

any mods? i have an 05 dirty with 35's full turbo back 4" exhaust and edge cts race and also a kodiak mouth piece and i get 12-14 at 80 with a 37' enclosed with 5 sleds inside

I have an 04.5 with 20's and 285's and have been to colorado twice and the hills once and I have averaged anywhere from 10-13, depends on the weather 1 or 2 sleds, 75 or 80 (makes a big difference there). I can get 20-22 in the summer months with my truck and the efi live tuning it has at 62-67mph. The weight of 2 sleds, gear, deck, and assorted crap adds up along with the extra wind resistance.

I have 4" turbo back exhaust,k&n air intake kit, 265/75-16 tires and bullydog powerpup on the tow/econ. setting. I haul 5 sleds in my enclosed and get 9mpg.

I have a 2006 LBZ Duramax and seldom get less than 13mpg. If I go 70 mph I can get 17 with two sleds on back. The 4wd kills you as well. I have a programmer and exhaust so I might get a mile or two better than stock.

However, the benefit of a sled deck isn't really the mileage. It's the convenience of not towing a trailer on the road, putting weight on your rear axle for icy conditions and not dealing with parking a trailer. I seldom use my cover unless the conditions are really sloppy.

The truck isn't weighed down as much as it looks here. The camera angle is deceiving. I do run about 15-20 lbs in my airbags with two sleds.

I just completed a 2,000 round trip to Cali with an 08 Duramax and a 4 place enclosed and got 10.0 mpg. Was only 80 for probably 1/4 of the trip if that.
