Fuel capacity recommendations for snowbikes?

I have a 2016 Yamaha WR450F and bought a 3-gallon aftermarket tank. Just wondering how much riding I can do without needing to carry an extra gas can on the tunnel. I probably will put on between 20 to 50 miles a day on average and was hoping that 3-gallon tank would be plenty. On dirt I can go 30 miles and it probably only uses a gallon at most.

I realized it depends on how far I want to go, how deep the snow is and how much I'm hammering on the throttle.

Also wondering what size extra tank you recommend. I have a little 2-gallon that I could use. I know Timbersled used to include a tank that was probably 3-gallons, but apparently there is some legal hangup and they can't include them anymore.

Should be good... For at least 30 to 40

Don't know miles, but I'd guess 3/4 to a gallon an hour isn't too far off for any kind of powder riding.

Rule of thumb is, I top off the 2 1/4 gallon bike tank every 2 hours or so, just to be safe. Carry a 3 gallon skid tank.

I agree if you go for a good ride there is never a time I do not refill the main tank... Or anyone I ride with ...but no one I knoe has a 3 gallon tank... But they do have 2.5

On a really good ride we would burn about 4 to 5 gallons of fuel. I like the Mountain Addiction tunnel 3.3 gallon tank kit. Never ran out the last two seasons.

I'm not the best/most aggressive rider and I can empty the 2? Gal tank on my efi Yz450 just trail riding with my kids for like 30-40 miles.
Mix of trail and any sort of off trail, avg day, I'll burn close to 4 gal.
I've yet to use more than 2 full tanks, but Ive yet to have a "full" day of powder riding with the guys either. It's always 50/50 or day cut a bit short or something.
Seems the same before and after adding a thermostat too.
I'd never leave the truck with less than a full tank and the 3 gal on the back of I was going for a full days ride.
This is closer to sea level and heavy snow.
Leaner running and light snow in CO may help a little.

On myKX I had a 3.2 gal and it really effected the handling with more weight up high! Now with my SX I'm leaving the 1.9 on and carrying more on the tunnel down low!

2 gallon tank on my YZ plus the 3.3 mountain addiction can is all I have brought. Except one day we had some killer snow and bluebird day, I threw an extra 1.5 on just to make sure i wasn't going to get the day cut short.

Very rarely do I come out on fumes with the 5.3 gallons total. I definately start heading out as im getting lower on gas most days but its usually a good balance of my bike is low on fuel and my body is about beat.

Snow uses a LOT more gas then on dirt. especially as the snow gets deeper.

I use a full tank and a 3.3 and have never ran out. I have dumped it all in a good day but still had half a tank in bike at the end.

I second that. I have a 525 KTM 3.5 gal main and 3.3 gal tunnel can. can ride all day. In DEEP Powder.
