In the process of doing FTX D&R on a pair of D8s. Lookin' for pointers and wondering if a auto body recip saw is what people are using for the brake rotor and pto side jackshaft bearing notches? What brand is a good one to buy? Thanks

i used a blue point/snap-on air hack saw.blade is about 2.5 inches
long.Made nice cuts and is easy to manouver.saves lots of time.

i used a plasma cutter to do mine, then went back through with a drimmel and cleaned up the lines... made it a fairly quick and painless process

How much does the snap-on tool cost? Is there any side effects of the heat on the strength of the tunnel if you use a plasma cutter?

i believe the air saw is about 185.00. kinzers plasma cutter sounds way easier

I used that air recip saw. You don't have to buy the one off of the Snap-On truck, but see if you can find one from ebay or a pawn shop. There's not much to go wrong with them, so if they work now, they'll likely work for a long time.

.... but I do like Kinzer's idea better.

I just finished mine. I have a 2008 D7. I believe if you already own a plasma cutter, that would be great. I wouldn't necessarily purchase one just for this kit. I used a Blue Point air saw. When it comes right down to it , there is not that much cutting. A lot of the time is drilling and grinding off old rivets. If I were to assemble a second kit, I believe one could do so in about 8 hours. Most of the time I spent was second guessing myself and really making sure of my modifications. The instructions are quite good. Fastrax is very helpful, and the kit appears to be awesome. I have not test rode mine yet but the approach angle and clearance issues are dramatic.

One huge benefit are the slight suspension mods which help with the "sag" inherent in the Dragons. I predict my D7 will totally rock!
